2003, Obj was preparing for 2nd term, ASUU went on one very long strike just like this. Obj ignored them and went on to win the election. Only after the election did he have their time. From that time to 2007 when Obj left, there was no serious strike, at least none that long.

That is why you see I never support ASUU strike, it is a very selfish strike targeted towards election period to hold politicians to ransom yet it is the students who suffer at the end of the day. ASUU will still get paid their salary you can be sure of it

And I told you that students are stakeholders. They once threatened to distrupt the election and cause chaos. A listening leader can engage them to appeal to them and tell them that the President has granted his wish to intervene. It is better than just ignoring the students. That initiative builds a political goodwill his opponents may not have. In election period, that is a masterstroke especially once ASUU calls off the strike based on his intervention.
