In Abuja, if you live in the city, the waterboard works...

But when you reach the outskirts...the new estates, everyone has his borehole.

Though there is an ongoing project to expand the water supply to the newly developed estates on the outskirts.

Lagos used to have an effective water cooperation, and they were very active until Ambode's tenure when he tried to convert it to prepaid water. A lot of people lost interest and dug boreholes. That was how Lagos State water cooperation died a natural death.

For the east...in Ebonyi state 2017 to be prescise, Dave Umahi tried something like this, the only problem was that it didn't last. I still remember this cos I was in Abakaliki that period and almost every road you pass you'd see bursted pipes and the water leaking into the gutter. After some months everything stopped running.

Aside Ebonyi state I don't think any Eastern state has attempted such again.

Firstly say what you know ...Enugu water board still functions , imo still functions ...but the reality is it's far more economical to dig a borehole down south ...it's cheaper 80k to 400k ..and you won't spend more than 5k per year for pumping water

What if u have prepaid meter how much will u spend

I am deeply concerned to ask this question on a forum like this to read the reactions and feelings of Nigerians concerning basic infrastructure needs like water in a state.

How many states can boast of portable water running through their houses(I’m not talking about boreholes)...I mean tap water provided by the state govt.

Growing up in the North(Kaduna state to be precise,in d 90s) I still recall how water runs through pipes and then flows to our kitchen tap.
This is 2022,how many states can boast of pipe borne water to her people? It’s no longer news that individuals are now providing basic amenities for themselves while those whom they voted into power no longer do their job. For goodness sake why should individuals be sinking boreholes all in the name of having water run through their homes? Where is the govt?

If something as simple as tap water can’t be running in homes of millions of Nigeria..can we then say governance in Nigeria is indeed a rocket science? I think the East has a billion and one sunken boreholes than any region. I maybe wrong

Is governance in Nigeria a rocket science?
Kaduna state waterboard remains if not the best, one of the best in the country. I never knew how common boreholes can be until I moved down to Lagos. The state water system is so functional even to most suburban locations. Most houses just dig Wells for back up, and politicians sink the manual boreholes on streets as constitutional projects that is even barely used, except by aboki okada riders.

Some work.

When I was in Benin, Edo state (Having stayed at a location close to the water board : Airport Rd.) it did work in the mornings.

I saw people use it.
I suppose it's so in Akure, Ondo too. But only in specific locations.

Abeg what part of Enugu o?
Cos I served in Enugu state, Udi local government and getting water was a huge problem there. In fact, it was the Catholic Church near the Udi local government Secretariat that was helping the members of the local government around the area with water. Like the whole area will assemble at their mission house to get water, the church even went further as to supply the corper's lodge with water on selected days too. grin

And for your info, I was initially posted to Akpakwume village in Udi local government before I relocated to the main part of town. Pipe borne water provided by government ke, where you wan see am during the time I was there. grin

Yeah I have an Uncle who stays at Eric Moore he did his borehole but the water wasn't clean, he had to do water treatment before the water could be clean a little.

Yea that’s true. Dave attempted to revamp the water board in Abakaliki in his 1st tenure. 2nd tenure arrived and he left it & focused on airport, fly overs and stadium.

Lagos ke? Everyone uses borehole here. Lagos water corporation died in the 90's, if not earlier. I remember we had a tap that never worked in our house in the late 90's/very early 2000's. The few times it did, water trickled out slowly. I later discovered it was "omi ijoba" (government water) but that didn't matter because it packed up soon after and never gave us water anymore.

Water was never an issue for us growing up because we had wells and pumping machines to pump water from the wells. I've lived in Lagos all my life except during uni and NYSC.
