Maybe the fact that Timber was 20 years old until last month points to the reason height was not a major issue with Timber unlike Martinez is. Still some potential to grow a few meters.

And we were only truly linked with Martinez after Arsenal got interested. Not all those dubious reports that had us linked to every Ajax and even PSV players.

People don’t usually grow after 20. In fact increase in height stops for most boys at 18 and girls a little earlier so I don’t know the person that would expect potential for Timber to grow in height.

Martinez is almost the same height as Timber and way better in aerial battles so like I said in terms of competing with EPL forwards in the air Timber would have been much worse and Torres with his height was actually also relatively weak in the air.

I prefer taller CBs myself and I am suspicious of a 3rd aggressive Argentine CB after Heinze and Rojo, but in terms of that aerial ability Martinez is probably the best of the 3 we were linked to.

P.S We were seriously linked to him immediately Timber’s deal collapsed. The same way we were linked to Malacia for a couple of months. The club was stupidly trying to deal de Jong first before signing those deals but moved on them when it looked like they would join other clubs rather than wait for us.

Lol people say this and studies show this but it doesn't mean much to me since I grew till I was 22-23. You'd be surprised when you meet up with some old friends you last saw when y'all were around 19-21.

So maybe on an average men stop growing around 19 but that's not the case for everyone. Especially for people that had late growth.

Btwn I'm just saying the reason people weren't talking much about Timber's height. He's still a very young player(with a slim chance of growing) that's already very technical and confident and can still be moulded to play that RB position he's played several times.

You are using trust me bro i am using scientific studies. The potential for a man to grow taller in his 20s is very minimal. People grow bigger and stronger into their 20s but rarely taller. You can't buy a 21yr old player with the thought process that he might still grow taller (well maybe a board like ours can).

The argument was about height and aerial ability and there is little to no chance Timber would ever become better than Martinez or grow much taller. To avoid any confusion i am not saying Martinez would be great aerially in the EPL just that Timber would have been much worse and Torres not much better. In terms of technique i don't think Timber is even better than Martinez. If you take out his Argentine passport i prefer Martinez to Timber.

Over the past few seasons we have lost Lukaku, Matic, Pogba and are about to lose C.Ronaldo. We will probably struggle with set pieces this season whether it is Timber, Toress, or Martinez. In fact this might save McTominay's United career and it also increases Maguire's importance. We went from a tall squad to a short squad quickly.

Lol you should remember Timber is 21 with a very high ceiling. ETH saw Martinez and went for Timber. There's a reason for that. All my talks about Martinez, I wouldn't be saying the same if it was Timber. Even though they're almost similar in height. Because of all the potential of development not only physically but in everything else. Martinez is coming in nailed on as a CB. He's gone through all the phase of being tried as a DM(Not really his thing) and Left back(Don't know how he fared here).

The goal Ajax conceaded against Benfica at the UCL was because of the lack of height of Timber and Lisandro. Lisandro is going to struggle in the EPL if he plays center back, especially at set pieces. Those statistics from the Eridivisie are not going to matter in England.
