I doubt all these stories partly because I know Laporta and his propaganda media cronies. They tried this same game with Bernardo and Pep had to come out to shut it down.

De Jong's salary was crazy from the jump but taking the pay cut was never his issue. I believe he earned 3M per year for the first 2 years or past 2 years of his contract. He is rich enough to survive on that which is still less than 50% of his current salary. But Barcelona promised him that things would have looked up by 2022 and that they would pay him 17M for this year alone. Even if he agrees to take 50% of it, it will still be money he deserves - before leaving the club that is.

United did. According to Fabrizio we originally agreed €65m + 20m add ons. We upped it to €75m guaranteed plus 10m addons to help the deal. Although that doesn't seem to cover the whole amount owed it's more than half but I guess Barcelona aren't willing to cover the rest.

Let's not kid ourselves though. He's not in a hurry to come to United. This much is a fact.

we should have moved on. I have not really watched this de Jong but it's not like we are chasing Messi. he could move here and still flop.

Everyone at Barca is being asked to take a pay cut(if they're staying)... salary issue is NOT blocking De Jong's move, he simply wants to play in the UCL, something United can't provide.

The replacement asked for some signings to level up, the board refused. Rangnick later said the recruitment this summer should be huge and that maybe 10 new players would be needed. United have only bought 3 or 4 players and 8 players have departed.

If you are Cristiano, does this look to you like an ambition to compete with City or Liverpool? The season hasn’t even started and everyone already knows United cannot win the PL next season. That’s the lack of standards that is pissing Ronaldo off. Man Utd could have made a statement in the transfer market by bringing in at least 8 tier-A players to compete.

Why should Ronaldo waste his final years of his career playing for 5th or 6th? He scored the most goals for the club last season. He won PFA player of the month twice(highest in the country), he scored the most goals against the top 5 teams in the entire division. If the other dross players in the team contributed as much as he did, United would have finished 2nd or 3rd.
