Hourly Pay Vs Monthly Salary…

I believe it would increase productivity and benefit both parties. Na who work go chop. The lazy ones would be left with nothing at the end of the month - especially those ones in ministries that come everyday to sell crayfish and china handbags.

It may not work in every sector, but it can work in many. The education sector for example. Teachers can charge per period and maximize their day. Two periods here and there, rather than slaving in only one school for 20k a term. I know some teachers of special subjects like Diction, Music and the likes, do this already.

E for make sense. But they may not still pay beyond what is due at the end of the month.

Most of these civil service ministries and some private sector employers, no dey fit pay monthly salary, reliably, as and when due. Na hourly dem go fit pay?

Make we reason am na, they usually have about 25 - 28 days to plan towards salaries but when the month ends na story. I worry that hourly payments may even be harder to implement, las las they if you clocked in 80 hours, they will decide to only pay 40 hours with some BS story.

To answer your question, I won't mind hourly pay. I get to decide how many hours per day I want to work and work-life balance will be reality in my control. We pay too much lip service to work-life balance in Naija and in a city like Lasgidi, it should be actively enforced.

Then the staff simply knows he should reduce work-time, start searching for a dependable employer and finally switch employers.

It is really that simple. You get to prioritize what pays your bills and work multiple jobs if possible.

Great, then I like it.

I once worked at an org where salaries were paid twice a month to curb the excessive begging and incessant complaints of some staff about being broke.

For example if you earned 120k, you would get 40% of that by the 15th and 60% at month end, on the 28th or so. I thought it was cool because it kept me liquid and you know middle of the month na when salary earners dey broke pass.

Yet, we still had people burning through cash and complaining before the month ends.

Wow! In this UAR? That is a very laudable move.

You blame them? Responsibilities too much for this Nigeria.

I have always wondered how people in civil service do it. They are owing you for 7 months and you are still coming to work. Is it that there is something going on there that we don’t know? lipsrsealed

I’ve done a contract job before where I was paid weekly. The sweetness no be here. When I transitioned back to biweekly pay, it felt like I was waiting forever. Omo that monthly pay can’t work for me again.

And it’s not a matter of needing the money right away. It’s more because you feel like you’re being rewarded as soon as you’re putting in the effort. Like cash for hand back for ground levels grin
You do finish pay sharp sharp no long stories or we will tear your trousers and fight you at the junction levels grin

Hourly payment would definitely favour the FG.

I would advise the incoming president to adopt this quickly

Some civil servants get paid to peel the egusi they would use to cook their soup in the evening, just because they peeled it in the office

I don’t blame them.

They get paid poorly and are expected to spend 5 days a week at work.
Leave early come back late.
add traffic on top of that.
And just like that, a miserly job ends up taking your whole life and youth.

If I’m a Nigerian civil servant, I’ll bring my laundry to work sef. Dem never see anything.

Most times, four people are doing one person's job.

If the civil service is restructured, many of them would be jobless

You need to visit some ministries and see how they are idling away doing nothing

one time I started a new job and my IT clearance didn’t work properly so I couldn’t clock in my hours electronically. Per protocol, I used a paper time sheet to log my time pending my IT clearance and somehow someone in the payroll missed my time sheet so I didn’t get paid for two weeks.
OMG.

The director called to apologize. The union president called to apologize. The CNO called to apologize. Emails and emails to follow up to make sure they didn’t miss it during the next pay period.
Tell me why I won’t be motivated to go to work?

Our employers need to really adopt the practice of making sure they take the employees time seriously. This hourly pay thing might be the solution if enough people get on board.

Obviously state government won’t get on board because they are the professionals at owing civil servants for 6 months. Useless governors

Exactly. They come to work because they know if they do not come, they’ll be fired. But that’s also why some of them take up side hustles in the work place.
I don’t doubt izzou when he said some of them don’t do anything but I totally understand.

I have a friend currently serving in a Federal Ministry in Abuja.

She goes whenever she likes. They do nothing in her department. Some days, they share money sef.

She can video call me for 3 hours at work. That's how jobless they are there.

I can tolerate a case for jobs outside the civil service. Most of them are paid to do nothing

I prefer monthly pay.

Weekly pay messed my planning and system up.
I did bi-monthly pay for few months and went crazy.

On the other hand, I have a friend who recently joined the monthly pay gang. She couldn't cope
To each his tent.
What works for A might not apply to B

Well those ministries are different because I don’t even know what their job description is. What are they ministering?

But something like government healthcare is a different beast. There must be sick people to care for. They work all the time like regular civil servants and get owed too . But they have to go or they get fired and they can’t play around at work or people will die.

I saw all that and I developed a deep dislike for the government and how they treated their employees. That’s why I don’t feel any type of way when some employees take advantage of the system. As long as no one is being put in harm’s way.

These guys are always busy, and deserve a higher wage.

But this is like just one out of many

Imagine a country where we have to provide our of means of getting water. Yet, we have a Ministry for Water resources. Every state even has a Water Board.

There are so many useless ones like that too

hehehe. Wahala.

See don’t even get me started on the fire service system. They have a whole office and employees but not one fire truck in sight. At least the fire service station in my area didn’t have one before I left . Hopefully it’s different now. Now what are the employees supposed to be doing at work?
You can’t even call them when there’s an emergency.
