Lol. I absolutely avoided mentioning that game for a reason. A game that saw Mikel run the show from the CDM role vs Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta. A midfield Masterclass for the ages. That was like the last weapon I was gonna wield if the discussion went any further as Mikel actually played a deeper role (CDM) that day. There is no game of Ndidi in the GWG as CDM that comes half as close to matching the Midfield Masterclass Mikel showcased that day vs Spain from a CDM role as well. Absolutely no game. The Guardian UK also corroborates this. It is either pure amnesia or blatant disrespect that would make anyone at all say Ndidi is better than Mikel as a DM. That person needs cord wipe on the neck. GIFxel:also mikel vs CIV 2013 afcon, obi was a colossal figure in midfield for us and blocked a last minute goal which was played by yaya I am a huge ndidi fan but he is not of the same class with obi. Ndidi is more like a destroyer/out and out Dm unlike obi who can be deployed as a dm or deep lying player maker. In summary ndidi is like the makelele, casmiro, keane and gatusso of this world while obi is similar to the likes of busquet,Carrick, veira, jorginho, redondo etc |

TheLoneCitizen:What you show is Haaland jumping without the ball. Show us Haaland jumps with the ball like these below. And for all these jumps and Haaland's superior height (1.94 vs 1.86), Haaland's aerial duels won per game have been inferior to Osimhen's for the past 4 seasons (18/19 to 21/22)..

The Osimhen Jumps with the ball are plenty. Show some respect for the Monster Machine abeg. The firsr frame is Osimhen vs Nikola Milenkovic who is 1.95m. The second is Osimhen vs Tomori and Zouma to beat Kepa (who would be joining him soon at Napoli) for his first UCL goal back in 19/20. The last is Osimhen vs Soyuncu for Napoli's equaliser vs Leicester in the UEL last season. Osimhen is a fearless aerial beast. Respect where it is due please.

Alhassan Yusuf was named Official betFIRST Man of the Match for Royal Antwerp in their match day 2 league win over Zulte Waregem on July 31. Was said to have covered 11.7km in the game. The Mile-Eater also recorded an 85% passing accuracy, made 3 tackles, had 1 interception and did 5 recoveries.

TheSuperNerd:Ndidi has shown more consistency than Mikel on the average. Mikel dropped to average too early into his career and went in and out of form regularly. Yes he is a better playmaker, but Ndidi is stronger and more reliable than Mikel defensively. |

Shown more consistency how? The way you just jump into a convo without any iota of facts to back up your stance. Mikel was super consistent for Chelsea from 2006/07 till 2013/14. That's a whooping 8 seasons of consistency and he was a major player in all of Chelsea's triumphs in that era. It is only the 2014/15 season EPL triumph that can be said to not have Mikel as a key player even though he had 18 EPL appearances. Even the 2015/16 season saw him play 25 games with 19 as starts before his Rio 2016 adventure saw him dropped by Conte for the 16/17 season for not refusing to rep Nigeria at the Olympics. 15/16 was Mikel's end at Chelsea. In the Super Eagles, Mikel was almost always CONSISTENTLY among our top performers per game. Same cannot be said of Ndidi in the GWG based on same CONSISTENCY. And in terms of all-round Defensive Solidity, Ndidi is not better than Mikel. You think Tackles and Interceptions are all that make up defensive Solidity? How about positional intelligence? The ability to cover passing lanes laterally and also offer defensive turnover passes to relieve pressures on your own defence? How about World Class press resistance? How about those? Mikel had all of these in addition to the tackles, recoveries and interceptions Ndidi is mostly known for. Also, Mikel's all time Tackle success rate % in the EPL is 78%. Ndidi's all time tackle success rate % stands at 62% so far. So sorry, ain't no way is Ndidi more defensively solid than Mikel. Even Mikel is stronger... it seems Mikel's size and strength was lost on you during his playing days. So My Son, be a good lad and go check what consistency means again. The Mikel vs Spain CDM Masterclass is something Ndidi can only dream of. So wake up out of your delusions. JohnBullMySon: |

Culled from Planet Football article on Mikel's Heroics in 2012 UCL Final. https://www.planetfootball.com/nostalgia/mikel-john-obi-chelsea-champions-league-2012-bayern-munich-didier-drogba-goal/ “I did quickly grow to understand that. I spoke to [Claude] Makelele during my first season. He knew I was going to one day take over the [defensive midfield] role from him,” Mikel recounted to The Athletic in 2021. “He told me, ‘Listen, you’re not going to get accolades playing in this position. You just have to do the dirty work, make sure the team wins and then all the glory goes to the strikers! Always.’ “When someone like that is talking, you pay attention. Claude continued by saying, ‘I have done this all my career. In Real Madrid I did it. Zinedine Zidane and the others got all the credit, I never got any.’ Straight away I understood what I was getting myself into.” This was in an era where Emphasis on defensive contributions were still not as pronounced and emphasised as it is now. P.S: Honestly, it is probably people's view of Mikel that should be the litmus test to gauge folks' understanding of the beautiful game in here. So many football ignoramuses spilling jargons about what they know not or know very little of. Such a sorry sight. |

Culled from Same Planet Football article.... https://www.planetfootball.com/nostalgia/mikel-john-obi-chelsea-champions-league-2012-bayern-munich-didier-drogba-goal/ Unwilling to be limited to a watchdog brief, the Blues’ deepest midfielder was beyond useful in possession, intermittently receiving the ball facing his goal and under pressure from the German giants. His press resistance saw him deceive Tony Kroos with a feint in the seventh minute before releasing Jose Bosingwa on the right flank with acres of room to run into. Ten minutes before the interlude, Mikel, yet again, refused to panic under pressure from the Germany midfielder. With no team-mate near the Chelsea man who was facing his goal, Kroos smelled blood and harried the Nigerian. However, with a sharp turn, Mikel was away from his marker and played a forward pass to Juan Mata. The aforementioned situations saw both moves end with the Premier League side finding themselves in promising positions only to be thwarted by Philipp Lahm on both occasions. When Mikel had the ball, he was a calming influence and mostly played it forward, seeking anyone in little pockets of space or showing his passing range by pinging accurate balls into the forwards. Out of possession, the languid midfield man was not tasked with cancelling out any opponent’s threat in particular. Rather, he moved laterally between the lines depending on the situation to put out fires. Finally, no be everybody sabi football. ![]() |

Ndidi is more defensively solid than Mikel yet his all-time EPL tackle success rate is 62% and a far cry from Mikel's EPL all time tackle success rate of 78%. This ignorance by some is really befuddling. I rest.

Lewy, Dembele, Raphinha, Ansu Fati as attacking options. I no call Auba or Ferran. Pedri, Gavi, Busquets as MF options. I leave out the power-playing Kessie (mostly brawns than brains). Then in defence dem get Kounde, Araujo wey him head dey touch sometimes, Alba, Christensen (your fmr player), Veteran Pique, And Dest. Guy, you sure say dem go collect? Well, Me I don't care... I would truly love to see that match up. Koulibaly vs Lewy. Kounde vs Sterling. Busquets-Pedri-Gavi vs Kante (since him na 3 in 1) Ahhhh... Sweet fights. ![]() forgiveness: |

Just to mention a few... And remember, the focus is ONLY on passing technique and range. These La Liga CDMs definitely trump Ndidi in this particular skillet of the role (Ndidi beats almost all of them, if not all, in the defensive actions aspect): Busquets Frenkie De Jong (CDM version) Casemiro Dani Parejo Martin Zubimendi William Carvalho Guido Rodriguez (DM version) Geoffrey Kondogbia Eduardo Camavinga (CDM version) andrewbaba44: |
