Hearing Vodacom, I almost got booking a flight to South Africa and taking a trip to Midrand. Then, I remembered Vodacom has about 60% majority stake in Vodafone.
You indicated cancelling your 'new' (now recently old) Fibre Internet contract out of frustration. It appears you did not communicate in writing (email at least) what the frustration was to Vodacom before following up with that of cancellation: Essentially, write to them beforehand.
The challenge here is you might not be able to claim #incovenience on the defacto basis of law of contract.
More especially as you alluded to Vodafone performing their obligatory duty of installing your Fibre connection (albeit unsuccessfully).
Nothing suggest you complained about the botched installation or conduct of installation, nor did you reached out to Vodafone for 'performance of duty'. In which case, they might be 'compelled' to offer you relief pending resolution (perhaps a temporary 5G).
To compound, you seemly did not outlined/articulate (obviously not artikulate) your inconvenience hardship loss for which compensation would be fit and proper (causing Vodafone to be obidient)
Kindly note that you are not out of options to seek redress. All I've done is to outline (part of) those things you'll need to factor and/or address; from law101 basis. In essence, you need to factually concretise you #frustration (and loss thereof)
domin8:
Morning Guys,
Please, I need your advice on if anyone has experience with this.
I placed an order with Vodacom to set up the Internet as a switch from my current provider, Now Broadband.
The day to set up the connection arrived, and Vodacom, through their infrastructure provider Cityfiber, upon visiting, said they could not install it as they don't have all the equipment needed to do so, and it would take another two weeks to one month for them to conduct a survey and set it up. Out of frustration, I cancelled the order.
Now I do not have Internet either from my older provider, whose contract I have cancelled or from Vodacom, who failed to deliver.
Bear in mind that reactivating the old provider will also take about 14 days, and going for a new provider is the same thing.
Is there any way I can get Vodacom to compensate me for this inconvenience?

@amarathriple0, I will research and apply for these voluntary roles, but I'd appreciate if you can share links or info about companies offering these voluntary roles.

Research on non-profit companies/NGOs around you: they're usually more open to accepting volunteers.

Modified: be very specific about the role you want to volunteer for since there are two types of volunteer experiences (relevant and irrelevant).

In your case, maybe as a volunteer project manager or whatever.

Do this, lest they have you serving tea trays and say you are volunteering for them. grin

Vodacom could simply state you cancelled the order and hence they are not beholden to a compensation but best to seek proper legal advice though.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for your feedback, breaking it down, and touching on the key issues. I guess the error on my part was not communicating in writing and stating how their inability to carry out their duty would lead to some type of loss on my side before going ahead to cancel.

This is a good learning point for me, and I'll ensure all complaints and matters of such nature are written in the future. We do learn every day!

Let me be managing my Lebara unlimited data until I get an alternative.

In the meantime, who is the better broadband provider these days? Recommendations are welcome smiley

Boris please don't resign embarassed
Good afternoon stenon. I saw some helpful posts on a thread about becoming a teacher in the UK. I have a friend who would like to become a teacher and would probably move to the UK in about a year's time. She's a graduate of agriculture but wants to pivot into teaching. She's currently rounding up an online course organised by the commonwealth education trust after which she plans on acquiring a teaching job. I saw you mentioned something about trcn, please can she get it and how can she get such certification or is it only for those with an education degree? What other things could she do in this one year that will make it easier in becoming a teacher in the UK?
Thanks a lot

Hello everyone,
Please I have a friend that want's to invite someone to the UK for her graduation. She would like to know if there would be effect on her own side should the person refuses to go back home as agreed. you know the hearts of men can not be known. She has just converted her visa from tier 4 to tier 2. but her agreement with the person is just visit for the graduation. Note that the friend has a good job in Nigeria but anything can happen. my concern is if he decides to jakpa would my friend be held accountable?
Thank you.

So your friend does not know if he wants to jakpa or not but she is concerned about him jakapa-ring? how? I do not believe this story… however I do not think ‘your friend’ will be held due to the immigration sins of ‘your friend’s friend’… not heard of this as yet. Happy to be countered.

How are you even considering inviting someone to the UK when you know there's a possibility of that person becoming an overstayer?

Yeah there has to be personal stake in the matter. @Judzygal please don't do it, even if it won't affect you personally, don't make life worse for the millions of Nigerians who'd apply for visas in the future and be asked silly questions because they're considered at risk of overstaying.

It took me two days.
NB: I did 10yrs, that may or may not make any difference.
https://www.nigeriahc.org.uk/fees-processing-online that link pretty much outlines the process.

Is it true undergraduate studies doesn't count for the 10 years ILR route?

It means you can drive legally for 1 year from the date of your entry before you are required to have a UK license. So you can go ahead and buy a car now. It will actually help you get familiar on your own terms.
But by September when you clock 1 year, you must acquire a local license in order to drive legally.

hmmn, with the lack of dates for testing...what can one do. Provincial license only?

I didn't mean to be rude, and I'm not speaking to just you but some information are practically one google search away. Sometimes dependence on second hand information can land one in trouble.
That said, the information you seek is here https://www.gov.uk/long-residence

Agriculture is not part of the subjects in the secondary school curriculum in UK. She can not be qualified for TRCN without an Education degree.

I think she should look at volunteering or working at any Primary school level in Nigeria, then apply for PGDE( Primary) in UK.

I was brazenly expecting this. I like that your subtle and indirect "rudeness". grin

I'm not unaware of this on gov.uk but I had to post it here to stir a public discourse. Largely to sample if anyone else has heard of the claim that undergraduate studies don't count towards ILR.

Back Story: One of my cousins has been around for about 4 years, and has been doggedly fixed or perhaps, ignorant that her student visa/stay counts towards ILR despite showing her on gov.uk. Was hoping to point to the discourse.

It counts towards the 10 year route, so your cousin is actually right. Education is a legal means to the ILR in 10 years.

Well like i said in the opening statement, I wasn't speaking solely about this case, and i don't want to make others uncomfortable asking important questions.
Just to be clear, student visas will count towards the 10yr ILR but not 5yr route.
So if your cousin came in to do bsc, then went to msc and then PhD, he/she/her/they/it could get it.
