He didn't lie though. At the point we played Liverpool and the likes forwards the end, we'd already started resting players. 2nd position was all but sealed.

We were not going to win the league. 2nd position was sealed and we had a Final in few weeks.

Imagine the 69 points that finished 3rd that season couldn't even make top4 the very next season. Imagine Chelsea finished 4th winning half of all the total matches played

man utd topped the epl till week 18 of that season before We drew with Liverpool. If you can make excuses for Liverpool being poor that season the same can be made for utd last season. we finished 3rd and 2nd prior to last season. Those ruling man utd out of contention for top 4 next season are alarmist.
