Soldiers Beat Police Officer To Death In Lagos

METRO
By Apata Oyeniran On Aug 4, 2022

LAGOS – Soldiers from the Ojo Military Cantonment on Wednesday beat a police officer identified as Inspector Monday Orube to death in Lagos over rights to way.

The Soldiers who were said to be over thirty (30) in numbers were reported to have kidnapped two policemen who were working as traffic warden to their barracks while the third officer managed to escape from being kidnapped.

A source claimed that the lane through which the Soldiers were driving in a Coastal bus was stopped by the three Police Officers who were on duty at the time of the incident to allow other road users on the other lane to pass not knowing that the coastal bus was conveying Soldiers who were still behind.

The Soldiers got infuriated and insisted on taking one-way during an argument with the Officers.

They were said to have pounced on the officers and beat them to a pulp. The Soldiers also kidnapped two of the police officers to their barracks where the beating continued.

The source further said when the soldiers noticed that the abducted policemen became unconscious, they decided to take them to their hospital at the cantonment.

However, one of the Police Officers. Inspector Monday Orube unfortunately gave up the ghost on Thursday afternoon.

Another source further disclosed that the Soldiers who were going to their cantonment in a coastal bus, were stopped by the Police Officers and they got angry and asked why Civilians will be allowed to pass before them.

“The three traffic wardens were beaten by over 30 Soldiers before they were abducted to their cantonment.”

One of them was unconscious and they were both taken to their hospital.

The officers were kidnapped while their rifles which include two AK 47, with over seventy rounds of ammunition has been in the custody of the Soldiers since Wednesday when the incident happened and they are yet to be returned as at the time of filing this report.

The Soldiers involved in this unlawful act were said to be among the lowest in rank who have only spent four years in service while the Police Officers are senior officers with over twenty years in service.

When contacted on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the incident happened.

He said: “It is true that an incident occurred between our officers and some soldiers numbering up to thirty on Wednesday around the Ojo area of the State.”

He however said that the Command and the sister Agency (The Army) involved in the incident are working together to resolve the issue.

RE: SOLDIERS BEAT POLICE OFFICER TO DEATH IN LAGOS

…the 81 Division Nigerian Army has instituted a Board of Inquiry to unravel the circumstance surrounding the unfortunate incident.

At the end of the investigation, anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions. Consequently, the Division wishes to commiserate with the @PoliceNG Ojo Division and members of the family of the victim.

The 81 Division is already in touch with the Lagos State @PoliceNG Command to resolve the matter. This incident is highly regrettable given the Division’s disposition and zero tolerance for any misconduct.

I happen to witness the incident, and I'd say both are at fault, there were just few cars bfr the soldier's bus which the police saw, it cost the police nothing to spare few minutes to allow the soldiers pass for sake of peace bfr stopping other cars, they might have been on orders and late coming is always punished in the military. And when they came down in rage to question the policemen, the police men to were showing power and superiority hence reasons for the damages

The Soldiers were wrong to beat them and the Government also got greater blame for not fixing traffic light, in a saner clime the duty of Traffic Police is to ensure traffic light are obeyed strictly not to stand and control traffic with their hands. but this is 9ja

Bloody idiots

When they post them to Zamfara or Bornu they will be forming social activists claiming no weapons or poor welfare packages and from there go AWOL.

But when in peaceful south , you see the idiots forming Rambo.

People should understand that the average grunt in the army was a social misfit and failure before joining the army .

These idiots 5ys ago were roaming the streets as civilians with no hope in sight . now they joined the Arny and have come to see bullying civilians as their only compensation in their miserable wretched lives. If you see the way officers treat these NCOs you will not even advice your enemy to join the army.

Wow. What a mess. The Nigeria Police have been so fond of being notorious to the people they are suppose to protect to the extent that when things like this happen, nobody has anything sympathy for them, some if not many Nigerians will Cheer this act by the Nigeria Army.

All the same, what those Army men did is not good at all. They need to be reprimanded and if possible, tried for the murder and assault of that Police officer.

It's almost a norm now in Nigeria that our men and women in security outfit now believe they are above the law, just because they wear uniforms and carry rifles. This damaged mindset of theirs need to stop immediately. This is so bad. I feel for the family of the dead police officer. In this hard times having to lose the bread winner of the family isn't funny at all, especially in such a manner that could have been avoided.

Let justice prevail and deal with the men of the Nigeria Army who did this condemnation act.

This ugly shameful and despicable unethical conduct by uniformed men is only common in grossly uncivilised setting like Nigeria.

Just imagine how these unprofessional conducts like continue to depict us to the wider world about. Why would Nigerians and our passport not be treated with utter disdain outside?

Really? They were in a hurry and couldn't wait for 3 minutes but were not in a hurry to fight and beat the policemen for 15-20 minutes? The reason why Nigeria would continue not to work is this your type of reasoning.
Is Nigeria the only country with a military? Why are we not hearing that those who are supposed to be the most disciplined professionals are always messing up in places like even Ghana?
If these soldiers do not acknowledge constituted authority like traffic police. how are you sure they would obey traffic light? They would as well endanger the lives of other road users by refusing to stop at traffic lights because being a soldier means being above the law or rather, being lawless.

Would those soldiers beat up ISWAP, Boko Haram and Bandits who are ready to meet them fire for fire? Do we not see them complain of poor equipment and superior firepower when the chips are down? Let's just admit that this country isn't working bruv

As a Nigerian you seem used to lawlessness. In sane settings the police had all the right to stop those soldiers at their prerogative (whether there's only one car trying to pass or not). The only case where the soldiers hold the aces is in situations of martial law being declared (state of emergency). These muppets always think they're superior to everyone because they joined the military. Not that the police force is comprised of sensible humans also.

What kind of idiotic talk is that? What "sake of peace" are you talking about? So soldiers should not obey laws?

Soldiers are subject to law whether obeying orders or not. Were they ordered to drive on one way?
Is Nigeria the only country that has soldiers?

We have to ask ourselves what the policemen did to provoke the soldiers. Remember civilians don't give soldiers the proper respect and think they can do anyhow around them.
