That was a dumb move.

It would have been better to allow us all think that he refused to perform because of his 'precious' chain..

Now that we know that that isn't the reason...one can't help but think if arrogance was at play here..Thinking about it, even his reply to the gold chain story smacks of sheer arrogance as well.
