He was then supposed to repay Gowon by declaring an Oduduwa republic. As a lawyer and elder he had more sense than Ojukwu. The loss of lives consequent on Ojukwu's action was PREDICTABLE> Many Iboes like you say it was necessary and unavoidable and an act of bravery .The Yoruba have a very long term perspective in our actions and you see it as cowardice. Well if Ojukwu was suicidal with a mandate from you .Awolowo had no mandate of suicide from the Yoruba . Do not forget that in the Western Region when the coup occurred Akintola 's party was in charge before Ibo soldiers murdered him. So Awolowo had no elected mandate for all Yoruba. Just to educate you; Before Nigeria there was never a time all Yoruba were under one umbrella and no one has a mandate to declare such a thing
