Na, even if you abandon elephant grass for years, it never matures into Achara plant or even sugarcane.

A close look at the achara picture and you realize it is infact a different plant as the stem indeed is thicker than your average elephant grass.

You need to dig out some mature ones with the roots intact and transplant to another location of choice. That's how we do it here.

Achara needs enough sand around the edges and constant harvesting for it to be maintained properly.

If I have one mature root is there no way to get more plants from just that one? Are there no seeds at all?

There are roots on the body of the matured plant that have overgrown harvesting, so, if you cut the plant into pieces like you do cut cassava stems for planting (with each having the body roots), and you put them back on the tiilled ground, they'll shoot off new ones.
