It doesn't matter if they were going for a piss in the bush. These are Presidential Guards. They are supposed to have the best possible equipment, not Hiluxes and AK47s

I will remind you of the old adage, "The poor workman blames his tools"

Bandits are not going around with NVG's, and heavy weaponry.

They are essentially a bunch of deranged, illiterate, and quite often drugged up to the eye balls youthful and misguided bandits.

A well organized structured, properly trained disciplined and properly armed forces, should really make light work of these bandits.

But that is not the situation by any means of measurement.

I do believe that our army is not properly equipped. But in addition, I also believe they are very poorly trained as well , not highly motivated and have poor discipline.

Video of @NigAirForce CH4 drone in the Northwest. The NAF air base in Kaduna is supporting drone ops in the region.

Why must they fly these UAV so low

Where were the UAV, when a train was derailed and attacked and 300 passengers kidnapped by Boko haram.❓❓

Boko haram held the train and it's passengers for at least 30 minutes before taking 300 people captive on foot and then effectively disappeared.

It will take a UAV 5 minutes to get to the area of contention from Kaduna, it then has 40 hour flight time endurance. As you know it has thermal imaging and at high altitude the deranged terrorists will not know they are under complete surveillance.

But unfortunately the UAV was missing when required.

the perhaps the drone got there in time and then what
It will do nothing
Would you want to carry out airstrikes and take out civilians too
Our problem isn't the location of the hostages but getting them out "Safely" without civilian casualties and use of kinetics chances are like 30-20% success

"DEPLOY ACQUIRED SKILLS TO SURMOUNT SECURITY CHALLENGES" - COAS CHARGES GRADUATING ARMY CADETS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya has charged Army Cadets of Regular Course 69 of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to deploy their newly acquired combat skills and competences to surmount security challenges in the country. Gen Yahaya gave the charge as the Special Guest of Honour at the Battle Inoculation phase of Exercise Camp Highland, which wrapped up final exercises for the Army cadets, before their passing out of the prestigious Academy later in October this year.

The COAS, who expressed satisfaction over the level of training received by the Cadets, noted, that with the recent review of training curriculum in the academy, there has been remarkable improvement in the quality of cadets' combat training, in tune with NA's deliberate capacity development effort towards tackling contemporary security challenges. He expressed optimism, that as junior commanders, they will add value to ongoing operational efforts to restore peace and security in troubled parts of the country.

While pointing out that a lot of resources have been invested in training the cadets, the COAS expressed appreciation to the Commander - in- Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari for the confidence reposed in the NA, as well as his support and strategic guidance.
He assured the President and all Nigerians that the NA in synergy with other services and security agencies will "speak to the insurgents and bandits in the language they understand".

Describing Exercise Camp Highland Battle Inoculation as a "baptism of the Army Cadets into battle", the Commandant NDA, Maj Gen Ibrahim Yusuf disclosed that the exercise is a culmination of five years of training for the Cadets before their graduation.

The exercise featured a combat assault on a simulated objective with live firing by a combat team of cadets, supported from the air by the Nigerian Air force to inject realism into the exercise.

Senior officers who witnessed the exercise include the Commander Training and Doctrine Command, Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, Corps Commanders and General Officer Commanding 1 Division.

The problem is Operational philosophy. You dont buy Wing Loong and use it reactively. There should be a process for operating it and many teams at the back end doing evaluation pictures and videos feeds. Evaluation includes threat assessment and rating.
Maybe soldiers should not be operating some MALE drones. They are more surveillance than combat abd a body like DSS is more organizationally suited to analyzing info and generating threat profiles than miitary who would miss subtle cues

Unfortunately our theatres of operation are right in our borders, so the military rather than civilian agencies are saddled with IMINT

The drone was supposed to tell them where these people are kept aid in planning a rescue ops.
Instead of doling out 100m per person as ransom.

Their location wasn't a problem the use of kinetics was.
That's why they ditched the plan to use military action to avoid casualties

According to the Chief of Naval Staff, keel laying ceremony for 2x 76m offshore patrol vessels for the Nigerian Navy will take place in early September at the Dearsan shipyard in Turkey.

The Navy is also expecting delivery of FAC and UAV’s “by the end of this year”. The ships cost $80 million each and FG has made advanced payment of $35 million.

I wonder why the OPV 76 cost 80 million dollars each while the P18N Corvettes cost 42 million dollars each. Is there anything new and more advanced that will be built in the ships
