Agreed but one has to start from somewhere na. Not everyone will get £120k a year pay on landing town, some will get some will have to settle for far less before they find their footing. Please lets not make this thing about class or something, encourage humble beginnings.

Honestly, your somewhere can be from 40k, it doesn’t have to be lower than that. However, this is industry dependent as some industries don’t pay a lot. Also, this has nothing to do with classism because I never mentioned this. it’s just setting a standard for yourself and it’s also a personal preference so to each their own really. If my standards appear to be unrealistic or offends anyone then that’s their problem not mine.

There’s a saying in Yoruba, which loosely translates as “the child that says his/her father is earning ‘shyte pay’, he/she is also in the process of becoming a man/woman”. Long story short, we dey siddon look.

Isn’t it strange that the loudest ones, as I have always suspected, are the ones with little or no experience? Yes, there’s something called UK experience, as the dynamics are different, no matter the number of experience you had in Nigeria or anywhere else outside Europe. Someone who hasn’t even ‘tasted’ the UK corporate environment and is just about to start full time job is disparaging real men and women’s hustle?

Anyways, experience is the best teacher. Come back here after you have successfully completed your probation period with your ‘I too know’ and ‘I better pass my neighbour attitude’. Mtschew, I get time today grin

In my opinion, everyone can not have the same view on issues. It can not happen.
If you make your point, do so without necessarily throwing shade up and down. It is exhausting. If you want to start with 1000 annually sef it is fine or if you say it’s 150000 annually it is also fine.
Move on, the disparaging comments are scary. It is now no longer a discussion but attacks from camp A to B. It didn't use to be like this ooo

The news making the rounds on social media now is about the mummified bodies found in a ritualist den in Benin city early this week, you need to see that video...human beings were dried and stacked whole like kpanla fish, some never even dry finish.

Those are the outcome of get rich quick syndrome, yet we condemn the earnings of legitimate hussle.

The bar must be really low. Anyway, I apologise to anyone who was offended by my comment and dare I say motivation. Not Trojan Horse though, I no send your papa!

Anyway, if you are in any tech related field and you want to apply to companies directly then check out otta.com

OR if you want to have companies book interviews with you directly (Not recruiters) Then create a profile on hackajob.co

Also, if you optimise your LinkedIn and Reeds profile, You would practically get stalked by recruiters, some offering below market rate and some offering some decent pay like in the attached. (This can sometimes be irritating sha, especially with those out of the blue phone calls)

Finally, work on your CV, this is extremely important, you can use one of the templates from Harvard and sprinkle it with the blood of Jesus wink https://hwpi.harvard.edu/files/ocs/files/undergrad_resumes_and_cover_letters.pdf)

And finally, don’t let anyone make you feel like you are dreaming too big. Package and sell yourself. Anyway goodnight! We argue again tomorrow grin

I get you clear and like you said - we all have to set our own standards based on our capacities and not try to live by others' standard. They will get there cheesy

Gbas gbos left right and center, I believe everyone has targets and goals(long term or short term).
Your long term is someone's short term and vice versa. It's important for anybody to understand their reason for being here, and tailor that to what drives or pushes you, your reality isn't same with the next person.

I believe we are all the architect of our respective decisions, if person push you, you hit jackpot lucky you, if otherwise na trailer you jam pick yourself up we live to see another day.

I called them to enquire about Saturdays but they said it's for certain types of visa of which my visa category is not among

Both equally piggyback off 02 network....... If you might call Nigeria directly, Lebara is your best bet.....

If strictly UK calls and a data consumer, Giffgaff is your companion.......

I am about a week old here
Searching for menial job atleast to help me integrate in the system while I still strategies and pursue my dream kinda job
That said
I have the verge of securing two jobs but to choose one.
Sortation operative with amazon
Multi drop delivery driver

Then someone advised I leave it and a run a course on care/support/mental sth that would take three days, cost about £150... Afterwards I would get better job opportunities... Saying health care is the in-thing.

Elders abeg put mouth

Welcome. It really depends on what you want short and long term and also your capabilities: strengths ans weaknesses. Some people are good at the care job, some also intend to build a career out of it. I know someone who was called to do a care job for £500 on Christmas day. £500 for one day. So yeah, it could pay so much but I think the average is still around £11 per hour. Not sure.

Using myself as example, I don't think I really wanted care if I had the choice so I chose Warehouse. I was in Financial Tech back in Nigeria and wanted a career in Tech here so Care wasn't gonna help me. I chose Warehouse instead, physically demanding but I didn't mind, in fact I loved it as I am very Athletic. I did Amazon and my Take-home was over £800 every week working 60 hours. I was lucky to join during Seasonal periods when they offer extra £2,000 as Joining Bonus. Good money. Also, I actually put Amazon on my LinkedIn profile and it helped with the "packaging".

The first few months can be chaotic but it gets better. So choose any you can comfortably do. A lot of people run away from Amazon stress to Care jobs, but it was the other way for me. There are no wrong answers

Yes o, we're talking about Cost of Living and Earning Capacity and I'm seeing someone say "Ritualist Den in Benin" and "we know them on social media".

Nobody is "pressuring" anybody o. What would anyone gain by that here on a faceless platform? People are giving out selfless advice to their Nigerian Community here to tell them to consider well before taking offers and someone else is thinking it is for "show-off" or "looking down on others".
