Jeremy stepped inro the living room, closing the door behind him with careless abandon. It had been a long day in school and Gerard was right after all. He really had a lot to catch up on. With every thing that had been going on,coupled with the load of homework and projects, he prayed he wouldn't lose his sanity before the year ran out.
A delicious scent assaulted his nostrils and he smiled from the direction from which it emanated from. The kitchen. He followed the scent there.
June stood in front of the gas, busying herself with the cooking. Shiela stood beside her, panting eagerly at the food above.
"Welcome,dear." June said, without turning around. "How was school?"
"School sucked." Jeremy grumbled, making his way towards her. "How does one miss a month of activity and get piles of work as a reward?"
"Please tell me that was a rhetorical question." June glanced sideways to give him a blank look. "Where you expecting candies and treats in the first place?"
Jeremy however wasn't listening. He was reaching into the frying pan to pick a piece of meat when she slapped his hand away.
"Ow!" He winced.
"No " She reprimanded. "Wait till dinner."
"Come on, mum. Just..." He pleaded.
"No." She shook her head. "It's bad enough that I have to shield the food away from Shiela. I'm not ready to deal with another assailant."
She turned her attention to Shiela who had now stood on her hind legs and leaned towards the pan. Her nose was dangerously close.
"Down girl." June tapped the dog's muzzle and Shiela landed back on all fours with a yelp.
'Don't be like that, Juniper.' Shiela barked at her. 'I just need a nibble.'
"No means no." June frowned at the dog. "You'll get yours when it's time."
"As for you." She faced her son. "Go upstairs and take a shower."
"But mum..." Jeremy protested weakly.
"No buts." She shooed him away from the kitchen. "Off you go."
Jeremy grumbled as he trudged lazily up the stairs. A snicker escaped his lips as he heard his mum scream at Shiela from the kitchen. The sneaky dog must have swiped a piece expertly.
As soon as he steeped into his room and closed the door, he winced as a sudden sharp pain was felt in his temple. He clutched at his headand groaned loudly. It was so sudden and out of the blue. It felt like someone was within his mind hammering at all corners. Jeremy crouched to his feet as the pain intensified.
"What the hell is this?!" He shut his eyes tight and cried out. Thick veins appeared on his forehead and the side of his face reddened.
All of a sudden, it was over. The pain was gone. Jeremy opened his eyes and blinked rapidly in surprise. He ran his hand over his forehead. It felt alright. He felt okay.
"That was weird." He narrowed his eyes as he walked towards the bathroom.
