Then he is picked up. There are three defenders ahead of him, that is a screen/wall. It will prove easier to intercept it. Meanwhile, at the side of those three defenders, it is easier to pick a pass to Osimhen.

Mobility is key for modern day defending. Waiting, means it is easier to pick you up and requiring extra brilliance from the midfielders.

Lol no be everything you go defend

100 percent spot on. The 1on1 chance Haaland got which Pope saved was as a result of what you described here.

We might just have to accept that movement is not his greatest strength.
How can you say movement is not his greatest strength when Osimhen showed split-second decision-making, noticed that there was room at the side of the three defenders? Broke away from their sandwich, and gave a passing line for the midfielder.

What Subzero047 is proposing is that Osimhen should not have MOVED, but maintained his position. However, Osimhen showed movement and mobility.

That was brilliant movement, and this is coming from one of Osimhen's most vocal critics.

Why was Osimhen angry there? Woof.

At the beginning of the move he was not in a sandwich he just needs to maintain his move and he would be one on one with the keeper, that he chose to run around the defender was amateur, well I guess he will learn with time
Maintain how? Football is not static. Oshimen was already on the move but Augiussa refused to release the ball. That touch should have been a pass to put Oshimen through but no he kept running with the ball towards Oshimen. Oshimen needed to readjust his movements which he did to perfection and scored a beautiful goal!

I am a critic of Osimhen. So, this is not defending. The longer he maintained his position, the easier it would be to pick him up. Also, the movement he made, made the pass possible.

Keep that in mind.

Protect him from what exactly?

Brother, his run should have been vertical not diagonal. All he needed to do was curve the run to remain onside.

He made the chance more difficult for him, so kudos to him for still scoring.

Maintaining will mean getting trapped in a sandwich of three defenders. The defenders are not sticks. They know Osimhen is the target.

That run Osimhen made was one of the pockets of space available.

Not actually. The pass was delayed because of Osimhen's movement to the outside of the defender.

If he pointed forward, even the dumbest player will thread that pass into the space where he pointed rather than to feet.

Osimhen had 2 or 3 yards to arc his run, an instinctual striker knows he has a far greater chance of scoring through the middle than outside of the defender, a world class striker like Kane or Aguero would do a curved run but maintain his position in between the goal posts

When he made the move, he did not need to point. Keep in mind that football is not aerial view like you are watching it on TV.

The midfielder, when he looks up, he sees Osimhen surrounded by defenders. When Osimhen attacked the space at the side, he sees him free, and instincts tell the defender to pass.

Osimhen should keep attacking spaces and breaking off being in marking territory.

Sorry. That was a good movement.

And the third defender was out of the equation.

You do not expect Osimhen to guess if the second defender will recover or not. The reason actually why the defender did not recover is because Osimhen escaped his marking territory.

If he followed Osimhen, he would create an attacking gap for the other players. That was perfect movement.

Okay, rather than dispute. I'm going to source what Haaland did in the exact same situation some hours ago.

Defender A was not even aware of Osimhen's position, Osimhen's run actually alerted him and invited him to to defend the ball when he could have been taken out of the equation by better positioning

There was a time in the first half Oshimen pointed and made a run but the guy did not pass, instead, he held on to the ball and later passed backward. Oshimen was visibly furious! If you are actualling watching the game you won't make this statement!

You are talking of positioning now. However, if that pass came at that time, Osimhen would make good use of it. Sticking to that position means, three defenders going at him. That was a sandwich. Osimhen broke out of it. And attacked wide.

Keep in mind, Osimhen's movement made the pass easier to pick him out.

Maintaining position will take some passing between the defenders to him.

That movement was cream.

I have repeatedly preached against docile play. Move, move, move. Open for easy passes. These, Osimhen did.

By the way, the movement Osimhen made was after this frame you are showing. As the seconds ticked by, they would have been in a favorable marking position. Attack the space. Do not maintain position. That is exactly what Osimhen did.

Here's the video of what Haaland did in a far more difficult situation.

If Nick Pope was the one at the end of that Osimhen chance, he's not scoring that. Strike was not even in the corner.

Here we go

Osimhen x Kvara show encore. cool

And it truly was the show of the Super duo.

Osimhen's nutmegged super strike sandwiched between two Kvara beauties.

And Kim Min Jae, you defensive beast. Fine goal.

We cooked good again today. Could have had a few more but we would take it like this heading into the next game.

Good game, Monster Machine. cool

Let us take it easy on Foden. He will learn from his mistakes. Foden should understand that it is for the team. He does not need goals to be a superstar. Guardiola will eat him raw today. Let us make it easy on the guy.
