You forgot the most important detail.

Sancho looked up to assess the situation before taking the shot. If VVD had made any movement towards Sancho, Sancho would have passed to Bruno for an easy tap into an empty net.

Just because you are looking from a TV screen, you thought the space can be closed down by moving forward. The space between them was huge(about 7 yards).

If it was VVD that sold himself with that slide, they wouldn't have blamed the player behind for not rushing out with the speed of sound to block the shot but rather VVD for going to the ground so fast...
