I have had issues with 'mad' Nigerians over this madness. you will see people put tire on the road in front of their house so that you will not park in front of their house like did you pay for the road too? Is the road your property?

And when you park there they will leak your tire. Please, do these idiots know that their property does not extend beyond the fence you paid for? You don't own the road. I hate these people with this entitlement mindset. One idiot haas actually leaked my tire because I parked on government road that happens to be in front of his property. You will see these demonic sons of baal disfigure the whole place by putting tires on roads in front of their house so someone does not park there.

This has happened to me in estates too. When you buy a house in a gated estate do you buy the road in front of your house with it? I seriously need an answer to this particular question because I have had troubles with people in gated estates who think the road in front of their house is theirs and no one can park on it?

Oga, all these swearing and cursing just because of a parking lot.
Can't u just make a decent post devoid of these unnecessary harsh words.

you are talking as a visitor. now talk as the occupant, esp if there are parking constraints in the area. you come back home and want to park outside because you are going out again, but some stranger is in front of your house in the spot you normally use.

and as a uk guy you know exactly whats up

and then there is the case of abuse.

i went to my old hood and the entire public parking has been taken over by car dealers.
we are not talking about car dealers cos we know it's illegal. what the op is saying parking in the streets on government road

I agree with you but for security reasons and Nigerian attitude i support the house owners/occupiers.
1. Some people will c0me and park their cars in front of your house and abandon it for months.

2. Security wise. The car can be stolen or parked their as a step or planning to execute a crime.

3. If something happens to the car or it is stolen the person whose house it was parked in front may not have peace.

So long a you dont block my driving in and out i dont send but don't come knocking on my gate asking for your car.

Sukkot wen you visit a place and d road in front is dirty do you blame the government for it or the owner of the place?

If a dead body is found in front of a compound it's the owner of the compound tat will first be arrested

Finally if a car was used to rob by thieves and d thieves dumped the car in front of a property the owner of the property will have question to answer.

oh i am sure the neighbourhood watch and all those nosy old ladies will not call the police on strange cars parked beside their driveways

there is a lot of nuance you are missing here

Nigerians have to provide their own security. nigerians have to be paranoid. Nigerians know that if anyone starts abusing what you consider to be basic rights it will be on them

can you imagine someone abandoning a used ice cream truck in front of your house? or a stolen car? or parking in front of your house at night to fk in the car?
nope not at all. if you are not loitering round they would not. park your car with purpose and walk out with purpose and then go to where you are going with purpose. if you loiter round yes the old white ladies would call the cops on you and nothing to do with your car or where you are parked

The other person is even gentle.

I have had lot of altercations with your kind in the past.

Sometimes, na to use two cars block am, 1 for front, another one for back, then call police or wait make im do him mind.
Other times I use words to flog the hell out of them or use bi vehicle tyres to block their front and back.

This issue should be channel to the government because it has a total control of land and its occupants.
Re: Why Do Nigerians Think The Road In Front Of Their House Belongs To Them? by sammirano: 1:48pm On Aug 26, 2022
It's wrong to park in front of a private property and it's wrong to deflate you tires. An Uber driver was killed in the US in April simply because he parked in front of a man's house and the man thought he had some ulterior motives so he shot him point blank. IF YOU NEED TO PARK YOU VEHICLE LOOK FOR A CAR PACK!

U don't park in front of an entrance to someone's home or office, some people are fond of it especially when parking where people sell,u park to the extent whereby customers won't see where to enter a person's shop and it's bad, park where it's designed or is appropriate make we dey learn tolerate and do to others what you wish others to do to us... some streets have a way they park and if you are not a resident of that area, u won't park overnight, last night, people parked to the extent I no see see road even to use leg enter gate and it was bad and if you complain, they be like it's government road,if that place is filled up or not good to park, u can go to the next place or street to park.

no. the op is talking about parking in front of houses in GATED estates.

it is why a lot of estates even try to impose clear restrictions - no strange cars allowed inside. you must call the person you are going to visit and the person confirms you to security.

Sukkot also does not realise that parking is a problem in lagos, so people will often just find literally anywhere to park their cars. a person can abandon his car in front of your house from 7am to 9pm. no one in lagos will be comfortable with that.

You're a stranger and the people who live there take care of the area and even pay for the security of the place. You can't block the entrance of my house and expect me keep quiet.

I think is because of security purposes
For instance if a stolen vehicle is parked at the front of your house and police come around you might be arrested to answer questions concerning the parked car.

Some Nigerians abuse privileges alot. Eg my Father decided to give ample space between our house and the major road when building . Which other neighbors never did, my neighbor's visitors packed his car at the entrance of my gate. Even when we beckoned on him to repark, He refused and it became a serious issue. We threaten to deflate his tyres and he threatened to call the police on us. It turned to a physical and verbal altercation. Last last we warned our neighbor, to tell his visitors to pack elsewhere

its not illegal, its the law for them to be responsible for the maintainance and care from the middle of the road to their fence line ,which includes sweeping and clearing , to gutter drainage maintainance, they could be held liable by law its their territory

The question is are u the owner of the road

no, the question is can nigerians be relied on not to abuse what should be simple rules.

i live on 3rd avenue festac - and some jokers have literally abandoned their trucks on the road fro the past 6 months. of course since no one owns the road, no problem right? oh - the truck has become a place where people can shit without being seen - no problem - np one owns the road.
the truck has become a place where people are robbed in the morning as it obscures view - no problem as no one owns the road

that is where that mentality goes

and that is why today so much of festac is a fing hazardous eyesore, because all sorts of louts have converted roads owned by no one to areas where they dump vehicles they bought but have no plans for,

Is front of somebody's property your parking space? Have you ever come to clean the gutters or cut bushes during sanitation exercise on the space or fill pot holes? As much as I don't support the leaking of the car tyres, I believe due to the way things are in the country the owner of the property is entitled to act as caretaker on the space outside his property

There was a time when two armed robbers robbed a person on my former street one Sunday morning, afterwards they used a bike to get out, they hid their bike behind a bus parked in front of my house, the owner of the bus has his own house but he doesn't park there, he prefers to park in front of my house until our caretaker burst his tyres.

I still believe he had something to do with that robbery
