Happy Sunday nairalanders.

I can't believe there are still men who don't watch football or know nothing about sports….
I do not watch football the way guys watch it every weekend and scream and yell. I do not have a European club I support. If Nigeria is playing , I will definitely watch. But the moment the game is over I do not bother about highlights. As for paraphernalia etc I buy Jerseys that are cute. I do not know the clubs or care about the logos. Once the color combination goes well with my jeans, I am buying it.

The likelihood that the information about football will be critical to my existence and survival is very very slim to impossible. There a lot of foolish and unscientific and ignorantly unproven talk about men that do not love sports. It is just a disgrace how people assume that because something excites them it MUST excite another person. And because someone is not interested in their interests, then the person must have a problem.

I prefer reading as an interest to anything on earth. I prefer intellectual discussions that who who got transferred to which club. If I am discussing sports then best believe I am discussing scientific research concerning human kinetics and sports psychology etc.

This is just ignorantly projected peer pressure. Like what you like and do not go on to generalize and pseudo-model and predict another persons vices and short comings because he does not like what you like. We can also assume that those of you that watch football are loud, violent, gamblers, drunkards, and tyrannical at home because you go out, watch the match, drink beer, scream and shout, fight and argue and transfer the aggression into your homes. You see how silly this argument is?! It is the same way the argument that men who do not watch football are boring, etc.

Love what you love. Allow another man NOT TO have a single interest in what you love. Some men love Chess. Some Scrabble. Some Snooker. For me I prefer Chess and Reading. Not football.

I was watching who wants to be a millionaire and this particular question was thrown to this guy.. I couldn't believe the guy didn't know the answer. Baba was totally confused and speechless. He even requested in using one of his lifeline options by calling a friend. Omo! I just dey laugh. And the answer is B. I have to capture the moment.

I can't do without watching sports especially football, boxing and wrestling. There's no question you will throw at me about football or other sport games that I won't give you an accurate answer. I know all football leagues competition round the world even Nigeria premier league I do follow up too.

Football is fun especially when you're arguing, teasing, defending, laughing, throwing banters at each other's club while drinking your cold beer.

Even here on nairaland when there's a live match update, I do visit the thread because I always enjoy the banter fans throw at each other.. It really fun.

Those of you that don't watch football or know nothing about sports.. Please how do you spend your weekends? How do you live your life? Is life not boring for you guys? Please I need to know.
I owns 4 bet9ja shops and I don't watch football at all, neither bet on sport nor virtual. Only in the business to make money, not to gamble shishi. I don't even know anything about it, only get to know their is big match when sales on sport bet is much. That's why I don't stay long for shop when I check on my Cashiers for their performances because customers asks questions that I couldn't answer, Only laughing and do as if I'm busy on the phone grin grin grin

Nope the question isn’t wrong geographically Israel might be in the Mid eastern,Asian region but they’re aligned with Europe and UEFA as far as football is concerned, same thing with turkey as a country which is a kinda euro-asiatic too they’re aligned with Europe in terms of football and politics.

Lastly the UEFA champions league is a competition organized by UEFA governing for football clubs and football associations under its banner.
Morocco is an African country and wasn’t part of the AU for over 30years (just came in again around 2017). Never stopped them from been an African country. UEFA is just a union. And for turkey, it riles more with Europe geographically, Russia would have been the best example tho. When questions of where you’re from comes up, it has nothing to do with your cultural or political affiliation. Has more to do with geographical.

I don't bet too.

But football has to be most fun thing on earth. Don't you just like the idea that two sides come to clash with each other determined to win the other but without an idea of how prepared the other side is?

I don't fancy other sports much - wrestling and other sports but you see football? The individual player skill and teamwork coordinated by the coach to win the other side and ignorance of the other side's preparedness is the sweetest thing on earth I swear down!!!!
To you that's fine. But literally many other sports have what you just described about football. Heck even esports competitions share similar sentiments. Sweetness dey everywhere

[quote author=Shegzy8 post=116140531]The question is wrong. It stated “From which continent “.. That alone is debatable!!

Mexico and Canada once took part in Copa America, doesn’t make them part of it.

Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama aren’t in South America also but the participate in Copa America.

So has that changed Copa America to the Gold cup or Concacaf cup like they call this scenario is not even comparable.Costa Rica is a member of concacaf not even conmenbol which is South America’s football confederation while Turkey and Israel are part of UEFA and And EU respectively...so how is the question wrong?it can only be wrong for someone who’s ignorant about the UEFA or the UCL!

Less than half ofnthe world loves football.

Football/Soccer
The sport has roughly 3.5 billion fans worldwide and 250 million players across 200 countries around the world. The next most popular sports in the world are cricket (2.5 billion fans), basketball (2.2 billion fans), and field hockey (2 billion).
Now my point is not all those 3.5 billion fans are from Nigeria or Africa.

Also, Nigerians or Africans are not the only ones who take certains things into their head too much.

When making a point, stay on what the cause of discuss is and not make some assumptions that are not correct because you want people to agree with you.

Its the extremists that brought it up, everyone must do like them And like what they like. I trust my extremist Africans. cheesy cheesy

I played football as a child, but got bored of it.

sanpipita:
People seem to quick to criticize others preference forgetting not everyone has same background and influence, I used to watch football alot but right now I really feel bored of it, few minutes of watching I might change can channel but I can stay hours watching athletics.

Football isn't only sport in the world there are many others people choose from to watch and they are passionate about it, just way you are passionate about football, watching football and having passion for it doesn't make anyone superior to other, if you go to places like India cricket is what people watch more, different backgrounds come with different choices and passion.

There are people that dont watch football and don't care to know anything about it. It does not mean anything. I don't like football, it feels like a waste of time, how can I be interested in people chasing ball.

I will rather learn electronics and build myself something new. That would be fun for me.

It's only in Nigeria and Africa that people take certain things into their head too much, because according to them life is boring, without a sport that was not even part of their culture and history.
You are 100% on point. I lost interest in it around age 10 when I thought it through as just mere chasing caged air for 90minutes and shouting!

I know about Russia being euro-asiatic geographically when the Tsars were still ruling they used to have armed conflict with them Japan and Manchuria which is part of modern
day Korea today....Turkish and Russian citizens I believe can lay claim to both Europe and Asia as their continent can’t say the same for Israel as the country’s history it’s not as straightforward as the former.

What you said about Morocco isn’t apt in this context Morocco is an African country membership of AU won’t be asked in a wrong as everyone is aware that it’s about membership and countries within that continent are free to be a part of it or otherwise it’s not obligatory!

Thats true, about mismatched logic to an extent but there is no need for them to make extreme statements about others who do not like football, just enjoy the football and let others be.

I like design, and other hobbies they make me happy, not football. I will rather learn new skills or do other things than football. People are different. Even if who wants to be a millionaire ask only football questions, I would not watch.

I will rather talk to an orphan or think about how to make the environment better even for the poor.

I am a very organized fellow.
I have 4 businesses and families I give attention to daily. I work, travel and play 247.
I do so much yet I am a super football & basketball fan. I watch NBA till 4am and still go about my business.
biko hapu okwu.
I was just clarifying the person I quoted, you can have millions of business.

That you watch or you didn't not watch football, does not mean anything aside wailing away time, which people has different ways of doing.

And yes no matter how you suger coat it. The fact still remains that, you're sitting comfortablely watching another man do their busines, while you smile and shout.

And there is no difference between you and a man who went and stood in front of another mans shop, watching and smiling while the owner of the shop sell his goods and make money.

Because in both cases neither the money the footballer's are making is entering your pocket nor the money the owner of the shop is making is entering your own pocket for standing and watching.

Is a bitter truth.

Baldwretch:
You are weird, funny, and without any valid point at the same time. To start with, the purpose of our lives is to worship and glorify God Almighty - through and through in our entirety.

However, you make it seem as if other secondary things like leisure and pasttime is wrong. You could not be more wrong, boss. Do you know how much God enjoys himself when his creatures (the good and bad alike) take some moments to enjoy themselves in recreational sports?
It's just like the feeling you get when you're watching your kids from afar as they enjoy themselves in that pastime like skipping ropes, algalagala and other recreation with a win or loss outcome that they are immersed in. It's for fun bro, don't get worked up over it. When fans troop into pitch in their thousands to support a team and they are singing and chanting, and dancing and chanting, even the angels, I would assume, are interested and engrossed, or when then there is a dying minutes thunderous goal with fans trooping into the pitch to celebrate before the ref even blows the final whistle. . I am sure God might be amused and pleased as Liverpool fans were chanting "Make it 10" against Bournemouth yesterday God finds pleasure in some human activites. May God forgive me if I am wrong, though. My point is, hobbies are not wrong, even the Almighty may delight in us when we enjoy them.

That being said, the OP is just surprised that one of the most watched sports in the world and one of the most followed competition, a Nigerian male is ignorant of. You don't need to have certain hobbies to know certain things. You should not exonerate him because he probably doesn't follow football. We should be all rounders. I know almost nothing about Basketball but if you ask me some elementary things about the sports, I should be able to answer you. We should be all-rounders. Basic knowledge of things around us should be encouraged. A country where during Champions league night, his peers are trooping out of viewing centers in their numbers? He has no excuse.
You speak about the Almighty Creator of Heaven and Earth as if you’re talking about your pal with whom you sat to discuss football over a bottle of beer and suya yesterday! huh huh Indeed, may He forgive you for your pomposity and presumptousness!! undecided undecided
The guy was talking as if football was all that Man is on Earth to kick around and jest about……so he needed to be reminded that it’s not the purpose of his existence.
In fact, he would lose NOTHING if he spent his entire time on Earth without ever kicking the round leather ball even once…same goes for basketball, boxing, clubbing, womanising and all other pastimes men indulge in to amuse themselves!
Take time to reflect on the REAL PURPOSE of your existence, my friend….else you might fritter away the most important part of it and have to return Home inwardly empty and barren!! cool cool
