Stop giving yourself false hope if you don't have an "insider" that can push your application. Infact the jobs are quickly hijacked by internal applicants. Dem take style corrupt joor!

While I won't discourage anyone from applying, I seriously agree with you about the insider thing. There's however still a chance of being successful without knowing someone.

You are entitled to your own opinion, I work with an NGO, people that came in thro me are people I have never met before, one is a Nairalander, my first experience with an NGO was purely on merit.

I totally agree with you. The only time they employ on merit is when they don't have someone close to them with that required qualification and experience.

Would you blame the OP for that conclusion, Hell, No.

This is a country where merits is really not considered during job placement, it's more of who you know or how much you can pay but that doesn't mean there are no organizations though little that don't place merit above anything.

Kindly note networking is still the best way of getting into such organization.

u no lie.. I hunted NGO job for more than 5yrs no result.. I did lots of certificate omoh na lie
The possibility of Getting an NGO job without connection is mistake
Insiders hyjack the jobs is wht I know very very well
So most job advert are formality

Most of the jobs in this world are by referrals and recommendations.

Build relationships o.... Keep your relationships alive.

Yes they might step on your toes, break your heart, gossip and backbite u, don't cut ties or throw them away just yet. They might be of help in the future.

I read about a story of an actress, she said her close friend recommended her for a blockbuster iconic role.

Very true. I agree with this. I worked in one myself and I met the founder via Nairaland.

Truth is, most NGOs work on a lean budget. So it is not like they go about employing and paying everyone. They have trustees that they to their best do tap professional services from.

There are exceptions though.

My brother/sister, you’re 95% wrong on this.
Have worked with over three International NGO without any connection.
Most times, your connection with inside reduce the chance of you getting the Job.
To the best of my knowledge, NGO is one of the best sector where merit work.
If you compete with an insider during the interview, and you merit the job, there is no doubt you will get it.

I disagree. I have a friend who got an NGO job in Abuja last year. It was basically on merit. Though the chance of one getting it without an insider is slim but it's not impossible
