2. Increased Unemployment.

The economic slowdown and lower production cause companies to hire fewer employees. Therefore, unemployment in the economy increases.

We are a consumer economy, we import virtually everything, and export close to nothing, that is what is driving the value of the naira down.

if Obi wins this election, he will become the most hated individual in Nigeria within 2 years (6 months actually). Really, it’s easy to talk during campaigns which was what the APC did before winning in 2015. When this guy wins, and he sees the realities on ground, he will be no different. The only place I see Obi making a difference is in managing/ reducing the cost of governance which is good but will make small difference. What we need is huge revenue drive.

Same for Tinubu, I feel Tinubu will do better in terms of revenue drive but Tinubu will have a bloated/ flamboyant government that will make people despise him. It will also reinforce the corruption tag on him. Worse for Tinubu is that the economy is already in shambles so the next three to five years will be economically bad for all Nigerians. People will take out their anger on the sitting president just as we are doing on Buhari now.

I don’t see where Atiku fits into this puzzle.

Nigeria is in trouble. We have to go for the best candidate that can make the worst worse. After their eight years, then hopefully we will get someone who can make the worse bad and then another person to make the bad good. Nigeria is no more an agrarian economy. For the agric sector to actually boom, people will have to leave the farms. An economist MR. Fasan called Buhari's rice pyramids as a "glorification of peasant farming"

No sound economist will tell you to go back to farming. The greater the share of agriculture in your gdp, the lower your per capita income or the poorter you are. All advanced countries have an agriculture sector accounting for barely 5= of their GDP.

Thailand exports more Agricultural commodities than Africa put together and its per capita income is barely $6,000 per head. And despite such impressive figures, agriculture accounts for less than 10% of the economy. Ukraine which is rumored to export as much food to feed 400m people has a per capita income of about $4,500. In 2021, it was 2nd poorest country in Europe.

Nigeria is far from hitting these 2 countries milestones in agriculture, yet they are not rich countries. If we take further into consideration that Ukraine and Thailand only have 43m and 70m population respectively, Nigeria with 200m would probably have to feed 1 billiion people through agriculture to even match these 2 countries per capita income

Oga peasant farming can only compliment local food production. I am talking about mechanise farming. I am talking about exporting grains and processed foods. While agriculture might not be our economic mainstay, but I tell you any country that can produce 80% of her food requirements can survive any form of recession. Our economy is going downhill because of the greed and senselessness of our political and economic managers. However, the truth is that, if Nigerian had gotten or acquired the capacity to refine 70% of our crude and thus export mainly refined products we could become one of the Richest in the world. But some senseless thieves decided to build Refineries outside the country and import from there, thus putting pressure on Forex to the detriment of our economy.

The truth is that for long market forces have not determined the exchange rate of the Naira. The two tier foreign exchange regime is a fluke. It has to end. Let the exchange rate be determined by the forces of demand and supply.

Allowing that will see naira jump to 2000 per dollar, and you will be the first to complain.
