Farfalla:Pardon me, i really do not buy into this analogy of a Nigerian woman because it is totally offensive to non materialistic and independent women who happens to be Nigerians and so in love with their not so providing Men. Not all watch television because there are places where they don't have electricity, not all families can afford Television, not all are educated enough to understand what Telemundo show but these people get married and love one another. And guess what? Not all Nigerian men can afford to give cars, trips, phones or whatever yet they find NIGERIAN WOMEN who love them dearly. Nigerian Women aren't entitled! Hell no! It is not entitlement when you follow laid down rules, norms and culture. Men Provide in Nigerian culture, all the woman needs to bring is her submission, her beauty, her feminity and her womb. The entitlement mentality projected on mainstreams are by men who want to eat their cakes and have it. Men who don't have the ability to provide for their women but still want to Lord over them. Men who want to change the status quo halfway and expect a balance result. And like the ever non accountable being these men are, they would rather blame the women for their own deficiency. If a Nigerian woman interprets gifts and acts of service as love, like your 2k , Phone, car, trip analogy, shes not wrong because it is how an average Nigerian man express love and affection. A Nigerian man will not do telemundo love, nah.. He express love by providing and taking care of his object of attraction. A Nigerian man would spend millions on you, tell you he loves you but would never take a bullet for you.You know why? That isn't how he is trained to show love and they don't get dragged for it. There had been couple of threads on this forum asking Men how they can handle an independent woman, no sensible response was given, some made it clear they would rather go for dependent women. We are still having issues on husbands coming to term with their wives being richer than they are. Imagine fighting such battle in 21st century . Very shameful. Oh Telemundo love still exist, if couples are contended. There are independent ladies in lovely relationships too. Putting all Nigerian Women in a box for some misconception is totally unfair! The sad part is guys who sell untrue stories to foreigners like you comport themselves better, let go of a lot of things just to fit in with you. This makes it so hard to correct the misconception about Nigerian Women. |

@ Klass99 in as much as i would love to write on every part of your response, i won't because my aim here is far from proving a point. The negative effect of one side story play out here and somehow we are playing cool with it and not doing much to correct it. So a Nigerian woman set certain financial for her Nigerian woman, does she really? does she?. In Nigerian society it is expected that a man who is ready for relationship / marriage should be financially capable. This expectation is not from the society he lives in. His parents, Friends, family then the lady he wants. The women don't set the standard , they follow it. Even if a woman sets the standard, has she done any wrong to be called all derogatory names in the world. From being a leech, to materialistic to gold digger. It's crazy! Brazilian women don't get called prostitutes because they satisfy their sexual urges a lot, South African Women are not called Slut because they have sexy bodies and show case it, Indian women don't get called Desperate because they pay dowry, Korean women don't get called Foolish because they are docile, Rwanda women don't get called Cheap because they do telemundo love. But the Nigerian women are called all sorts of names because they follow the norm and culture of the society they are raised in. That's really unfair and i don't think anyone should be fine with it. Our men have sold us out to the world out there, they have given us a reputation that needs extra effort to wipe out of the mind of people from the other parts of the world. Anyone who deals with foreigners a lot will know the gravity of the damage done to the Nigerian woman's identity. The least we can do is to try to make the few foreigners see the truth. And not wear the labels likes cloth, laugh and cheer like all is well. All is not well! I wouldn't want my daughters to be ascribed derogatory names by her foreign counterparts because she's part of a culture. |

Persephone1:Before we proceed, kindly put your sword back in its sheath. I'm not here to attack Nigerian women. I've never even had the need to. Surely without me adding a disclaimer you ought to have known that my post does not imply that there are no independent women in Nigeria. That is not what I implied at all at all. I used Telemundo as an analogy to describe blind love. Mumu love. The kind of love you find in soap operas and novels. Replace it with any other vocabulary of your own. And guess what? Not all Nigerian men can afford to give cars, trips, phones or whatever yet they find NIGERIAN WOMEN who love them dearly.Of course not all Nigerian men can afford material stuff. If they could, this site would not be as toxic as it is. But you should also ask yourself why they're the ones who keep yammering about "hustling so women will come" more than any other group of men in Africa. And like the ever non accountable being these men are, they would rather blame the women for their own deficiency.Go through my post again Persephone. Are we surely not saying the same thing regarding this? If a Nigerian woman interprets gifts and acts of service as love, like your 2k , Phone, car, trip analogy, shes not wrong because it is how an average Nigerian man express love and affection. A Nigerian man will not do telemundo love, nah.. He express love by providing and taking care of his object of attraction. And isn't this my point? This is what I mean when I say that Nigerian girls (in general) understand this at an early age. Why then does it seem like you are overreacting to something we both agree on? If a Nigerian woman interprets gifts and acts of service as love, like your 2k , Phone, car, trip analogy, shes not wrong because it is how an average Nigerian man express love and affection.I also don't remember mentioning anywhere that there's anything wrong with her interpretation of love. Nowhere. There are independent ladies in lovely relationships too.No doubt about that. Putting all Nigerian Women in a box for some misconception is totally unfair! The sad part is guys who sell untrue stories to foreigners like you comport themselves better, let go of a lot of things just to fit in with you. This makes it so hard to correct the misconception about Nigerian Women.About this. No, I'm not putting ALL Nigerian women in a box. And secondly, please don't assume that I am informed about the Nigerian society from a narrative being sold to me. My interaction with Nigeria and Nigerians is deeper than you know. Way deeper than you imagine. The summary of my post is this - Nigerian women (whether independent or otherwise) are generally smarter in relationship matters. That's a compliment by the way, so you can hold your fire, will you? |

Farfalla:I can point a million and more ways your initial post puts the Nigerian woman in a very wrong position. Your analogy of how a Nigerian woman sees love is very degrading to say the least,do you know all Nigerian women deep enough to give such impression of how they see love? Your words are coated in oxymorons. Anyone reading without emotions will see through that. You don't call me a monkey because i can jump when there are other honourable words to use. Substitute Nigerian with whatever nation you are from in your initial post, read through then judge if you would smile while reading. Your terms were wrong! That is the point! Your post sound condensing. Very condensing. Perhaps if you had put " your compliment" in a more acceptable and less ambiguous way. It would be more agreeable. Lol @ fire. Honestly i'm trying very hard not to do that, believe me. |

@ Persephone1, everyone here knows that Fárfalla has got nothing but love for Naija girls and I'm usually at the front line defending them when need arises. I am a bit distressed that you imagine I'm deliberately painting a derogatory picture of Naija women while passing it off as a compliment. Cattiness isn't my style at all at all. Substitute Nigerian with whatever nation you are from in your initial post, read through then judge if you would smile while reading. My candid opinion? I'd applaud them. Good thing is they are rapidly discarding mumu love for logical love, and it's a development I most welcome. Lol @ fire. Honestly i'm trying very hard not to do that, believe me.I said what I said and my intention was never to bash Nigerian women in any way. How you choose to interpret it is out of my hands. Feel free to fire but I'm done discussing this particular matter. Good afternoon. |
