Good afternoon fam,

Thanks for always helping out.

I want to paint my house's exterior and fence but I am confused.

The painter suggested satin for the exterior but emulsion for the fence.

But my friend's wife who works in a paint company in Lagos suggested that I should use ultra-fine matte emulsion for both.

Note: I screeded the exterior but didn't screed the fence.

1. Please, what's the difference between satin and ultrafine matte emulsion?

2. Which one do you think I should go for?

3. I want suggestions on how to achieve the best without spending much.

Thank you.

Satin is best suited for internal. If you want the high sheen of satin, you may use silk with same sheen but higher solid content.
Matte is better and more ideal for external than satin although it has much lower sheen.

Okay, thank you. But if I use the matte for the exterior. Can I use emulsion for the fence and it will still make sense.

I learnt that silk is expensive.

It's a 6inch Pipe and it goes to that window side and burst outside. So comes straight from outside through that window side and a bend is put at that point that made it face downwards. Yes it's for the kitchen extractor. It will eventually be hidden by the cabinet. That one that comes out will even be removed later, it's just there so the POP guys know where to leave the hole. See the pix before POP was done.

75mm could have been better for this

Will the 75mm (3 inch) pipe fit adequately with the exhaust outlet of the cooker hood?

I told my plumber not to channel hot water to any of my hand wash basins. He was looking at me like I was from d moon.
He said supposed it's cold and there's need to use hot water..
I asked him if he has ever used hot water to brush or wash hands in Abuja.
He said no.
I told him if he use my pipes to send hot water to the basins, I will remove the cost of the pipes and mixer taps from his workmanship money.
He grudgingly did wht I wanted.

We had similar arguments on chamberless waste piping. Now all his works are chamberless.

Sometimes one has to insist on certain things.
Thank you very much, this is an overkill, In NIgeria and the whole of west Africa we do not need hot water anywhere apart from our bathroom. There is no way the weather would be cold enough that you cant wash your hands or plates with cold water grin grin grin people just be opening officese on top others head.

We have it in the kitchen. Has its own separate tap. Useless most of the time but madam sometimes use it when cooking.
I believe this was at the advise of your plumber cos an 50 ltr electric kettle will sort the hot water needs on ur sink if cooking. That needs no piping.

Bad Materia of choice, That pipe should have been metal. Plastic expand more rapidly when placed under heat strain!

I don't think this will undergo any heat strain beyond it's capacity.

well you can try and put ur hands in front of an extractor, not that hot but enough to alter the structure of the plastic abi u nor think so?

You may be right. It's not my line. But I just think, since it's not the primary material that will conduct the heat from the extractor. There is another one that will take heat from extractor that will then be connected to this plastic inside the POP. I'm thinking by the time it gets up and especially the journey through the pipe outside, temp may have reduced. But I get your point, makes sense. We used what was recommended

I don't think so sir, bc 4" is the minimum range size for cookerhood, although it will work but with lower efficiency,

Around that same 1982 brand new 504 was about #15k. That would be equivalent to 400 bags of cement

Today, can a brand new car be sold for the price of 400 bags of cement? That is 400 x #3900 = #1.56M?
Why so much difference?

Hi Fam

Is Macnugar Paints good? Especially, their ultrafine Matt emulsion.

If yes, please how much is it?

I also need suggestions for the best paint to use for a screeded exterior wall.

In Nigeria, single proprietor carpenters/ small shop carpenters don't as a general rule use power wood working tools.

But wood working companies even in Nigeria don't joke with power tools, that is apparent from the quality of their finishing.

Interestingly, those local carpenters do use power tools when they take up jobs at those wood working companies, but for some reason or reasons, they never purchase those to work except maybe the drill and what they locally call the screwing machine.

That said, it was very interesting to me when I was about to purchase a miter saw to assist him do quality work for me, and he said that carpenters don't use miter saws, only those working with aluminum do.

I had to share with him a few videos of carpenters using miter saws.

YouTube is full of carpenters using miter saws.

Obviously, there is a major knowledge gap locally, and that translates to the quality of finishing.

That said, the better the finishing, the more the work will cost, and the more the discerning client will be willing to pay for.

Does that mean that local carpenters are taking decisions that hinder their very own prosperity?

Just thinking aloud.

So this is part of the reason why a lot of us in diaspora gets into DIY. It's not because we're cheap or workers are expensive. It's partly because we have cheap access to quality tools and materials.

A perfect example is the blueprint for my build. I got tired of explaining my idea to architects, so I simply downloaded SketchUp and drew it out once and for all.

I have table saw, a commercial grade Ryobi, beveling miter saw, jigsaws, etc engine hoist, car ramps, engine stands, etc all professional grade stuff

The next stage is to also do my own crude modeling instead of struggling to explain in words

Yes. There are alternatives when cooking. It's useless most of the time.
The plumber was indifferent about it though.

3,850 to site plus ( 50 bags and above, from a distributor in Abeokuta). 20 naira per bag for offloading.

4,100 to site ( urgent 1 to 10 bags from a retail store nearby)
