There was an agreement reached between Russia and the US that NATO must not expand to eastern Europe. US and NATO have pulled out of that agreement and start admitting Eastern Europe into NATO. Russia was patient when many Eastern Europe countries were joining. When it reached Ukraine turn Russia says "enough is enough. We will not look on while the enemy encircle us"
