I've been servicing it in total since I got it and I've done that 4 times already. This is the first time I'm noticing this consumption. I've not checked the pcv valve but will check. What should I look out for in the pcv valve?

You will unplug the black hose, use a spanner to remove the pcv valve

1. bring it up to your ears and ‘shake it’, if you hear something inside making noises then it is supposed to be okay. If you shake it violently and not hear anything rattling inside then the valve is bad. Replace it.

2. Bring both ends of the valve to your lips, now blow air into the valve through the ends, the air should only be able to flow ‘one way’ and not ‘both ways’. If it flows both ways or is not flowing at all through either way then the valve is bad. Replace it.

If that valve is bad your engine will be ‘disappearing’ oil magically so cancel that possibility first before moving on to other things. It’s the easiest thing to check after looking for leaks.

Highest wait is 2 days. You place the order today and it’s on its way to you the next day. Arrives abj in the night and you can pick it up right then at the park or in the morning the next day.

Using all these dextron atf will work but there will be a ‘noise’ and if you don’t change it out on time it will start damaging the seals in your power steering pump and rack and cause slow but steady leaks.

I'm just confused right now.
My worry is: if this guy isn't available does it mean we can't get Honda OEM parts? I totally hate such limitations.

Lemme just go with the nigerian flow. And by the time the leaks would start, Insha Allah, I shall have enough money to buy a new car.

Good luck wink

I’ve changed my power steering pump three times, all tokumbo units.

The first one lasted 8 months before the leaks started again, it gave up after one and a half years.

The second one was fine for 6 months then started making a noise like it was sucking air, then my rack started leaking after a year, then the pump started loosing power 6 months after the racks leak started.

This is the third year with this third tokumbo pump, no leak, no noise, smooth power round the steering band.

How long did you plan to you the vehicle before selling again?

That’s true. Other issues can come up but it’s mainly oil and seals that cause the problems.

Using the original Honda psf makes sure your seals don’t wear out faster and it has a different viscosity to the regular dextron 3’s we have in stores here in Nigeria. In fact, if you buy new dextron 3 and new Honda psf and keep side by side and dip both your index fingers in them and feel their texture you immediately notice a difference. Their colors are worlds apart too.

I myself switched from dextron 3 to Honda psf and my steering felt different immediately. You should try it, it will definitely help elongate the use of your system and make it work more efficiently. The oil was designed for your use. Dextron was designed for gearboxes (and Honda even warns you to switch it out sooner than later)

Another issue that can cause it is when people use hoses that aren’t the recommended size in channeling the oil from the power steering pump to the oil reservoir or rack. I’ve seen people use extremely big pipes not knowing that it will cause their pump to have oil starvation issues and fail. Same thing with using a smaller than normal pipe or ‘bent at an angle pipe’ etc

Hello all,
I am about buying a naija used Honda civic 2009 from a dealer. I am skeptical about Honda cars due to the negative reviews from my friends and colleagues, even though they have not owned a Honda car before, lol. This will actually be my first car. So, I will need advice if getting this ride will be a good choice. I don't want to buy what I will regret tomorrow. Please kindly give me your honest review on this. Thank you.

Good Day house and Honda expert.

I recently purchased a Honda pilot 06 model that was purchased 2020 from someone leaving the country and I need professional advice on steps in taking care of the vehicle.

He uses Total 0w20 engine oil and he says he does that twice a year. The car was driven from Abuja to Asaba and the oil life is at 60% at the moment.

The VSA, VTM-4, Check engine, caution, and Tpms lights are on. The vsa and VTM-4 comes on after a while driving. The tmps comes on occasionally.

The check engine light stays constant but starts to blink when I accelerate very fast and goes back to being steady when decelerate.

Also when I accelerate from gear one, it tends to delay a bit then picks up and it takes a little longer to change to gear 2.

The first scan done while in Abuja had the reports in the picture below.

1. I want to know the best steps to take in getting these issues resolved before heading to my mechanic here in Asaba.

2. Should I replace the timing belt, change the transmission oil, power steering oil and deferential oil spine I don't have a complete maintenance history from the previous owner.

Please note that the engine and gear box have not being worked upon before and all wiring harness are still intact.

Your car will be consuming fuel with those codes pasted, How many litres of fuel took you to Asaba?. Check if the Air/fuel ratio sensors are properly connected, and If they are,you might need to change the sensor for bank 1.
Concerning the long delay in transmission shift, you might need to change the ATF to Honda recommended fluid. I think it will help

You are right the fuel consumption is high and it took more than 1 and half tank to get to Asaba. I want to be on a safe side with experience Honda users and Experts before I proceed to the mechanic.

This is my second Honda vehicle, the first was a crv, my first car and I dealt with that car and I don't want to repeat such again. I have learned my lessons and I love Honda.

i did experience similar issue with my 2014 accord, turns out the battery terminal is not tight enough,
The glitch happens very fast like within 1-2secs the whole electrical systems trips on and off

Exactly my Oga .. the one only difference in mine is that whenever I steer it to the leftwards or rightwards it does that and I’ve replaced the battery terminal. It still did it yesterday

Please I can't find the auxiliary port in my MDX 2008. I checked the central console armrest. This is what I saw. (Attached picture).

Though there are some ports facing the back seat below the rear ac vents. Not working with the auxiliary.

Good morning @all

Please I got a toks Honda Civic 09 barely 2months... Being a newbie & since it's a personal ride for just everyday simple runs like to & fro for work, shopping when needs be etc..I planned to be using the recommended engine oil (which I tried to know earlier but didn't get info). So my friend recommended I bought mobil 20w-50. But I just confirmed the recommended oil for the civic is 5w-20. My question now is
1. Will it be wise to flush out the old and put in new 5w (giving the popular opinion that one should ensure to continue using same type of oil you started with to prevent quick damage of your engine)

2. The car has a ridiculously low ground clearance and it hits the ground frequently when I navigate around undulating terrain. Even the bottom left of the front bumper is showing crack already due to the impact of hitting the ground. Please will you recommend I go to lift the car or probably change to bigger tyres/rims?

3. Since day one of buying the car, it shows this spanner sign on the dashboard and doesn't show anything on that milage display area. (Meanwhile know immediately we bought it we change all the necessary oil and transmission fluid). Please is that something I should worry about, what are the implications...also how do I get that fixed

4. I'm in Abuja please...if you recommend I visit a car fixing shop... Please if possible kindly recommend me someone that is good with Honda

Thanks in anticipation of your response

I will only comment on the spanner issue. It means the car is due for servicing. When you change your oil, you are supposed to reset the oil life. When you reset it, the spanner will be gone. But since you didn't do that, just continue using it and meanwhile go through ur car manual or check videos online on how to reset the oil life of your car. When you now do another servicing, reset it.

If you have not used the 20w-50 oil for long, drain it and refill with 5W-30 & do another refill in 2-3 weeks, after that, you can use for normal duration.

Use a little higher tyre for elevation, do not do any suspension raising, will affect car balance.

Reset oil life by turning your ignition on without starting the car, press the reset button 2 to 5 times, turn off ignition & restart.
