If you fall in the category of those who paid mortgage deposit as rent payment and you feel hurt about what I said, you need to leave emotions out, take charge and steer your affairs rather than allow situations and circumstances do that for you.

Just cos your emotion is hurt doesn’t mean you can’t decipher a right from a wrong.
And what do you understand by ‘been there, done that’ that I quoted to a reply ?
In simple terms, I was in that situation and how did I navigate, it’s a story for another day

If truths are simply waved aside as opinions, then folks like me would ve been led astray by opinions on this thread. But, you know what! those ‘opinions’ have been helpful.
What gladdens me is that most of those who paid M D as rent agrees with what I said but the bluntness is what they can’t take.

Chairman. Sometimes you need to introspect & speak to yourself.

See that bolded? It’s nonsense.
Paying 15k upfront for 1 year only becomes a ‘waste’ of the tenant doesn’t stay in the house for the 1 year.
I currently pay £1,500 pcm rent. I signed my contract in September 2021. I pay by monthly Direct Debit.
As at 1st of October, I have paid the landlord £ 19,500:00
That is enough as mortgage deposit for a 4 bed terraced in some parts of the UK right?
Does it really matter if I had paid the landlord £19,500 upfront last year? Does it make any difference? At the end of the day, the landlord has pocketed my £19,500.
Was/is it a waste? NO. Reason: Because I and my husband and 4 children have LIVED inside the house, so it’s payment for service rendered.

Your initial post on which you descended harshly on someone who paid for 1 year upfront was too harsh and portrays you as I’ll-informed.
Circumstances differ.

My car is Peugeot 207. 2008 model. Automatic, Petrol. Mileage 55000.
The budget I have is around £90- £100 per month.
So the issue here is the make of your car. Peugeot 207 has a bad reputation for being expensive to repair. That said, you should try to use insurance comparison sites like moneysupermarket.com , confused.com , gocompare.com . Also, perhaps input your provisional license as your main license as opposed to your Nigerian driver’s license. That might help as this worked for me.

I got £680 per annum without blackbox with admiral insurance in January with similar condition as yours, except my wife wasn't in the insurance. When i passed my manual driving test, i updated it in their app without any payment.
Maybe you should give them a call...
wow! Quite fair

Again reading to respond and not comprehend. You must be fun at parties.

FYI, I was one of the lucky few who didn’t have to struggle to find a house or pay months in advance but I was ready to pay that large sum should the need arise. Your argument lacks empathy so clearly, you have not "been there and done that" else you would have understood what people are currently going through. I rest my case.

One major factor is location. My insurance once dropped from £1200 to £700 because I relocated from Manchester to Devon
I live in the outskirt of Swansea. Usually, that area doesn't cause high insurance I learnt.
Many thanks.

You know we like blaming village people for everything..... grin grin

Honestly the thing just tire me.

Small thing now we'll start seeing posts about "Nigerians don't help themselves...they even hide how to get cheap insurance from one another", and someone will see it and begin to spread the divisive idea further.

You will experience that if you are trying to use your card to pay for someone who's name is not the exact one on the card. They only allow using the exact card as the name of the applicant for payment
Follow the guide on their portal to register the card if you want to use the card for someone else.

If I posited that a certain upfront payment is extravagant, so, you expect such extravagant amount to be paid via Airbnb for 3 months?
Think again, who stays in Airbnb for 3 months?

Are you serious

Please I need help, we'll submit dependents visa application for our kids in November, but the passports of 2 out of the 3 will be expiring in May 2023, what can we do now to avoid any issues with immigration? Will renewal still be possible?

Thanks for your responses

@AlphaUno Dismissing other peoples experience because you found it easier is in itself egocentric.. I had to change accomodation recently and I know what I went through. The fact that I did not not pay 1 year or even six month upfront, does not mean my friend who has been here for a year already and had to also change accomodation and pay one year upfront is silly or desparate. He was rejected twice with his 1 year payment. You can seat there and dismiss the struggle of peoples trying to get a roof over they and their families as lazy, thats fine but also realize that different realities exists for different people. Locations also give different experiences in same Uk. It might be easier to find a house in aberdeen than it is easier to find in london. Also you looking for a flatshare might get a place easier than one looking for a 3 bed for a family of 5 or 6. Different realities exist. DO NOT DISMISS PEOPLES EXPERIENCE!

My earlier posts already pointed out all you said, you can go back a few pages to check

You are obviously not used to civil discuss, hence, your insistence on reading to reply. All the points you raised have been thrashed earlier but I still took the time out to point you in the right direction. You would rather jump in, in the middle w/o knowing where the discussion took off from.

The choice is yours to renew from Nigeria or wait till it expires here, provided that they would be in the UK before May ‘ 23
If you have a sure plug that will assure you b4 application, then I will say sort everything in 9ja

Who is?

They were complaining about students coming in but not working skilled jobs

They need to first remove that sponsorship requirement and just have graduates work jobs and then proceed to ILR

This will mean graduates won't be hunting only jobs with sponsorship and spread across different sectors they actually have interest in

I just left a viewing in East London. The house had one hour viewing and 28 people showed up. The agent has said 7 showed interest... 28 people showed up. Really where does someone start from .

The agent said several of the 7 offer put higher than the offer price which is 1800 for 3 bed...as if 1800 is not high enough. Bidding war has joined . Make I dey go house as my house is very far so came here for nothing

Nah, e go hard o, it's a point-based system and there's a "shortage list" meaning they don't just want graduates, they want graduates skilled enough to fill roles the Country is "short" of. Australia, UK, Canada, New Zealand even US, Germany are basically in the Global Skill Market shopping by setting up criteria/hurdles that they believe will sift the best Talents.
