didn’t you hear the ASUU chairman saying on channels television two weeks ago that Nigerians should make sure they vote out APC ?

But if what you said is true then it is wrong. He can't say he want apc out and suffers innocent students. How many apc big wigs kids live or studies in Nigeria?

Honestly if this is about politics then Fed govt should sanction ASUU seriously or possiblly ban it and outlaw it.

It's not apc who is suffering it now its the entire students affected suffering it.

Lmao, they won't teach o
The appellate court advised for an out of court settlement on Tuesday, giving a 24hrs window.
Both FG and ASUU lawyers agreed.
But they couldn't come up with an agreement within that time frame.

I'm suspecting Falana was begging FG to pay ASUU for some months, which Ngige refused.
But Adamu said it a long time ago that the no work no pay stance was from Buhari himself, before Buhari later reteriorate it that it's meant to serve as punishment to ASUU for their "needless action"

The Court of Appeal is the final bus stop when it comes to the proceedings of the National Industrial Court. Section 243 (4) of the 1999 Constitution.

While ASUU has a good case, national interest will be considered
so what's the supreme Court made for?

If they refuse, the Federal Government should enforce the Judgment of the Court by deregistering them grin

The government should not stop at that.

Vice-chancellors must account for hundreds of billions worth of TETFUND grants they have embezzled.

The lecturers must also write apology letters to students and add 20 marks to the score of students because you cannot stay 8 months at home blocking highways and bullying online without forgetting what you were taught in January. It should be a criteria for paying them the 8 months salary they didn't work for.

For more than 40 years, ASUU has shattered the dreams of great Nigerian students.

Below is a picture of ASSU strike being called off in 1981. My mother had just started Primary School in 1981. 41 years later a useless congress of indecent academicians are still frustrating students.

At the end of the day, government and ASUU are both going to agree that since the money needed cannot come from oil revenue...funding for universities will be increased by fee increases, and taxation increases.

That's when you will see why ASUU really is on strike. They want government to provide enough funding for keeping unis cheap, and keeping them at a level equivalent to a proper university.

The reality is government cannot do that. Money from oil is falling, and government has not taken the decisions needed for us to become a producing economy, and by extension, have enough cash to fund unis properly.

Me, I support fee increases, because it makes sense. But I also know that most Nigerians cannot afford fees higher than 500000 per annum or even 1million to 2 million...per annum...which is my estimate as to a proper fee university. And when universities increase fees, people like you would complain about it. But that is why ASUU has been going on strike...so that universites don't have to increase fees for you poor students to fund themselves..the universites, i mean... properly.

When government told them in 2013 that they could not give them 1.5 trillion in 3 years as per the 2009 agreement, within a week, fees went up in some universities. You think it won't happen again, now that ASUU Has been beaten down.

Anyway, fee increases are needed. But I know you Nigerians....

They don't need to go on strike to achieve that.
ASUU should stop lying and deceiving nuc officials during accreditation exercise.

They should be opened and allow any program lacking in areas of infrastructure and equipment to lose accreditation. That way the VC and senate will be forced to act to get it back.
Lecturers are fond of rigging the process but will be the first to start crying about inadequacies once the officials are gone.

They are also quick to hide under this guise to present their selfish demands.

ASUU main interest is to be on huge salaries to live luxurious life, even though that's not bad but they can't continue to waste students time to try and achieve that.

According to the judgment, if lower court sentence someone to death, the person must die first before he is entitled to appeal.
no, the person must stay on deathrow while he appeals the judgement.

Just like if lower court sentences criminal on bail to prison, that criminal will have to appeal the judgement from prison and then request another bail during the appeal.

It's simple sturv that a lawyer like falana supposed to know.

FG has registered two more lecturers unions. ASUU came into this strike united, now they’re coming out with divisions as there is now ASUU, CONUA, and NAMDA, all fully registered, licensed by FG. They’ll soon start attracting junior lecturers to port from ASUU to CONUA.

Their stand is not legitimate and it’s not for the future of our universities but for their selfish benefits.

No it isn't. It is for our unis future. Yes they want good salaries.(and they want a better method of payment, not IPPIS which messed them up)..but they also want better facilites, which the 2009 agreement goes into.

But crucially, they want standard universites that would still be cheap.

The calling off of the strike has basically left the increased fees option on the table. And since it is not popular, and we are poor, the government unis will depreciate further.

Maybe you can send your kids to private schools and universites...and no, I don't begudge you that...but most poor people are now left with badly funded univeristes which will now fall behind the private unis...all because government has no extra funds for improving universities.

At the end, as one VC said in 2018, you want Cambridge level, you pay the appropriate amount for it. Government does not want to pay for standard universites. Too bad for the poor.

Does your government know how much you are earning per month?

I am not a lecturer, but if I was one, I would go to a private uni, earn a higher salary, and also get some better facilties.

At the end, it is the government universites that will suffer from continued poor funding. And most of the people who go there are poor people.

University costs money. For many years we tried to run them as cheaply as possible...and thus they became so substandard. If you want it to continue like that, fine. If you cannot send your child there tomorrow...fine. But if it is what you can afford, then sorry....your child is going to be disadvantaged vs the graduate from private university.

I honestly wish there was an easy answer to this matter.

But the lecturer hasn't worked for seven months, why should he be paid? Who will pay the student for the lost time?

The best government can do is half pay!! Why will the lecturers collect full pay and nobody pays the student
I support this. Pay four months to the lecturers and pay the remaining to the students.

Infact 2 months to the lecturers and 6 months to the students.

The students are the victims here and they must be duly compensated.
