It's because, the Federal Government knows that even if it didn't approve it, Lagos State will still go ahead to construct it. Lagos State is the only self-reliant state in Nigeria, and also generating the highest revenue.

So it would be shameful for them to repeat what Obasanjo did back then.
It's a cover of shame.

Ibadan has a well established and functional airport built long time ago, and planes land there everyday across Nigeria.

Ekiti and Osun are already building their own. Ogun has no need for one now because of its proximity to Lagos.

How is it not going to be so when the minister of aviation considers that it may be used for more drug import escape route? When he thinks about Ipob/esn activities and insecurity in the region? When he thinks about how the place keeps turning to afgaeaster on daily basis and how investments there are not safe due to incessant lock and key scheme ? All these facts will make everyone including minister of aviation to disapprove the offer for the region and never because of sentiment. You have to show sign of seriousness and readiness before others can work to lift you up. So, if you want this kind of speedy approval in the future, stop Ipob/esn because it has no development to bring to alaigbo than turning it to killing field and ruin its economic activities

In terms of airports the SW is marginalized

There is an airport in Port Harcourt, Asaba, Calabar Uyo, Yenagoa and Benin

How many in the SW?

Southsouth airports were built by their state governments. The only airport in Lagos was built by federal government of Nigeria, so this newly approved airport when completed will be the first airport Lagos state government built themself.

Osun State government ought to have built their own airport, same with Ekiti and Ogun states.

If not for federal government special contributions and decades of investment in Lagos when Lagos was Nigeria's capital city, I don't think Lagos will be where it is today because by virtue of proximity to Lagos, Ogun state ought to be as developed as Lagos tapping from the numerous opportunities Lagos presents
