I don't know if it's just me, but ever since Bola Tinubu declared his Presidential intentions, Sanwo-olu has been unusually busy and proactive.

If he's not commissioning projects, he's courting foreign investments or proposing increment in workers' salaries.

All in a bid to sell the impression that Lagos is meeting her full potentials as Tinubu's legacy. Lol.

They were right when they said Tinubu is a different breed of politicians. Instead of the usual stomach infrastructure and articulate propaganda that other politicians brandish, man is fronting an entire state as an achievement and using the governor as a string-puppet in the pursuit of his ambition. Mehn!

How I wish Tinubu could just govern my Anambra for just 4 years, at least there would be great hope of real progress for the coming years.

Kogi was once a capital
Likewise Calabar

I bet you if capital is moved away from Abuja today...within a year it will be deserted.

It's beyond that.

Nah!
Kaduna,
Lokoja,
Calabar
Were once federal capitals
Abuja, with massive landmass, is still THE capital...
How has this status enhanced this kind of investment.
Natural location,
Natural People and their disposition
Coupled with some elements of foresight

You're being miopic. It has been benefitting thousands of Nigerians already. It is not only about affording to live there. Booker T once said to African Americans:

"An opportunity to earn a dollar is better than opportunity to spend it in an opera house"

Right from the dredging stage to the laying of pipes and cables, to construction of roads and bridges as well as other infrastructure, to erection of the towers that are standing tall today, thousands of Nigerians have gained both direct and indirect employments from Eko Atlantic City alone. That is one great way of building the economy.

What you referred to as a white elephant project is actually a multimillion dollar private investment which is targeted at the future.

A lot of foreigners and well to do Nigerians are residents of Eko Atlantic City already. Visit the pearls towers to see for yourself.

Re: Brazilian Investors Visit Eko Atlantic City by pacespot(m): 4:20pm On Oct 14, 2022
Nigerian government should regulate the activities of these so called foreign investors, that is what China is doing. If not, we will be here in Nigeria calling ourselves the citizens of this country while the foreigners control the critical sectors of the economy. They will not invest in manufacturing and critical sectors like mining that will create jobs for the youths, but they will be here stealing already developed land in highbrow areas like Lekki in the name of investment. How many foreign investors have shown interest in Ajaokuta steel plant for instance, this is a critical sector that can drive industrialization in the country and make Nigerian economy competitive, but they want to use Eko Atlantic city to do business and secure their land there, and they call it investment.

He doesn't need to live there, he can work there. This is a kind of project that creates hundreds of job opportunities in different sectors.

Thousands of Nigerians have benefited and a lot more are still benefitting through both direct and indirect employments.

Your hostile response was unnecessary. The comment was made to allude to Lagos' unique trajectory of development which is cannot be rivaled by any of the states in our Republic.

By the way, I am based in North America. My wife is Lagosian and we own property that we visit each winter and summer for periodic maintenance and vacation. No need for such vitriol , it is Friday after all smiley

Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, has been ranking as one of the worst places to live in the world for the nine straight years, a BusinessDay analysis shows.

Data from the 2019 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world’s leader in global business intelligence, shows the city has been within the range of 137th-139th position out of a total of 140 cities in the world from year 2011-2019.

Last year, Nigeria overtook India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty, thereby becoming the world capital of poverty, according to the Brookings Institute. This year, the number has risen to 91.6 million from 87 million in June 2018. Every minute, six Nigerians enter the group of extremely poor people, according to the World Poverty Clock.

https://businessday.ng/uncategorized/article/lagos-ranks-amongst-worst-cities-to-live-in-for-nine-straight-years/

The lack of state-owned pipe-borne water in the homes of Lagos residents has continued to be a source of concern, a non-profit group, Corporate Accountability and Public Advocacy Africa (CAPPA) has said.

At a press event to mark this year’s World Water Day, the group said its monitoring team’s visit to state-owned waterworks showed that most of them are not operational.

The group said the waterworks it visited include the ones at Maryland, Mushin, Ikorodu, Obalende, Agbowa, Onikan, Ikoyi, and Amuwo Odofin.

Only the one in Ikoyi is producing water, according to CAPPA.

SB2020:
Interesting facts about Addis Ababa and Lagos light rail projects.

Addis Ababa / Lagos
Cost == $475Million / $1.2Billion
Length == 34km / 27km
Time to Complete == 4years / 7years (projected)
Year Awarded == 2011 / 2008 (Construction began 2010)
Contractor == China Railway Eng. Corp (CREC) /Chinese Civil Eng. Constr. Coy (CCECC)
Population == 5Million / 20Million

Ethiopia has managed to deliver Sub-Saharan Africa’s first modern light rail project which opened in the capital Addis Ababa on Sunday, and in the process, beat Lagos whose own rail project remains four years behind schedule.

Ethiopia’s rail project was delivered on time, despite its being longer than the Lagos – Badagry rail line currently under construction.

Addis Ababa’s two line 34-kilometre system was built by the China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) and cost $475m, 85 percent of which has been covered by China’s Exim bank. The Lagos Light Rail Project or Blue on Badagry Expressway, was to have 13 stations from Okokomaiko to Marina via Iddo for a total of 27 kilometres.

The contract was awarded to the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) at the cost of $1.2 billion in 2008, and was to be delivered in 2011. Survey work took one year between August 2009 and August 2010 while construction began July 2010.

The work is being implemented using the public and private partnership (PPP) model, whereby the state builds the infrastructure and the private sector provides the rolling stock and management. However, the project has not worked out according to the plan.
The 2011 deadline was missed, even though the State government got a loan to fund the project.
