Honest Message To Nigerians In Diaspora Building A House In Nigeria by timesupreloaded: 9:50pm On Oct 17, 2022
Good afternoon all!

This afternoon I received a call from an old school pal helping his close friend in North America to handle a building project in Nigeria. He told me that his friend in North America accused him of cheating and draining him financially because of the duplex he has been building for him for 5years. That he should not set his legs in his site anymore. I won't want to get too much into details to avoid writing a long novel here but I will like to state clearly here to any Nigerian living in disapora that in the history of building projects, nobody in Nigeria have never eaten or stolen from them. They will never be able to repaid the sacrifice people down here have made for them. This includes their relatives. People in Nigeria are the ones being used as 'slaves' and ladder to climb up by those living in diaspora.

Let me state clearly here that it is impossible for 99.9% of Nigerians living abroad to handle the project themselves so they pretend as if they are helping you but in reality they are using and exploiting you. Most of them working legitimately abroad won't be able to complete a duplex in 10 years. If they come down to handle the project themselves they will spend 5 times the money they accused you of stealing. First they will need to build a ticket to come down here and these days a ticket from North America is over a million naira. Then hotel bills in Lagos then flight from Lagos to their hometown. The first two days in their hometown they will spend heavily on themselves, families and friends. That's almost or over 2 million naira gone before they even mould any block. A diasporan can never 'dash' you the equivalent of his ticket money.

Now working on the project themselves, their daily expenses (food, transport, booze, women etc) can never match what someone here they claim is cheating them. Let's say they budget 10million naira (including flight) to get the duplex to decking level, but because they came themselves they will end up spending just 4 million naira before their account shows zero due to other. There is no chance in hell for these same people go give someone sacrificing himself a million naira in form of gratitude but meanwhile over 6million naira was wasted and the building not decked yet.

They will need to come down to Nigeria more than 10 times (Please calculate the ticket money over that period) before that building will be finally completed, and they will do all over again with what I listed above. They know the truth deep inside them but will be parroting everywhere that people in Nigeria 'dey chop my money'. Nobody in Nigeria is chopping your money, you are they one stylishly using them as slaves that you will eventually discard once that project is completed. In building standard, an engineer or contractor is entitled to 20% to 30% of the total value of the house they built for you. 80% of the time they don't even get 5%. This injustice need to stop, Nigerians in diaspora must come down to handle their buildings themselves. But we all know the reality and result of that: 99% of them will end up not building at all. Without people down here you guys won't even have a land talkmore sand.

I will edit this post as I notice error. Thanks

It's wiser to buy a built up property in an estate even if it's on mortgage. Except if the owner is willing to relocate and supervise the project for a while. I've seen too many cases of "stories that touch" on this matter.

Some of our people in naija here over do it.
If u can't help a relative monitor a building project 4 free state it from the beginning, not trying to compensate ur self through shady means by over shooting materials cost and still fail to complete markups 4 the project.

You spend more buying out rightly. Most of these houses in Lagos and Abuja are 40million more than their actual price. Their profit is double the amount spent. Majority of diasporans don't have that kind of money. Mortgage is even paying more, like three times the amount when you add interest

I thought you live abroad. Wetin you dey talk nor link well to my post. If na only sand abroad person want to buy he will need to spend over 2million naira to come down and buy it himself but I understand you. There is a part two and follow up to this topic, about honesty and integrity. You will need to wait a bit

The days of diasporans using Nigerians who reside in Nigeria as slaves to step up is over.
