The problem with Nigeria power sector is not generation but transmission and distribution.

There are 4 major problems in the Nigeria power sector:
1. Generation: For a country the size and population of Nigeria, we are not generating enough electricity (6,056MW) to cater for the power demand of Lagos state talk more of Nigeria.

2. Transmission: Another big problem, although TCN is trying much more can be done in this space. We have losses btw the transmission centres to the distribution centres.

3. Distribution: This is the elephant in the room, there are lots of problems in the power distribution sector ( the privatisation of the discos was not properly carried out, metering, collections, load rejection)

4. Legislation: For the power sector to be fully efficient, there has to be some changes in our power legislations ( Removal of franchise areas from the discos contract, Allow govt/ interested private coys generate (IPPs) and sell power to under the willing buyer/seller agreement etc).
Private investors are finding it difficult to get/attract foreign fundings for power projects because of all these challenges esp in the area of legislation.

The Siemens deal is step in the right direction.

However, for Nigeria to have full power sufficiency, Nigerians must be willing and ready to pay for premium cost for electricity, cos electricity aiint cheap.

Na this Economic hardship and insecurity mask your achievements in infrastructure.

Economic hardship is a worldwide problem which is a direct hit of the past pandemic. But it’s very unfortunate that Nigerians only read bad news and localize it. This government would have been shining example of what governing should be. Opposition and numerous youths that can not think with their brains have already made up their mind on the Status to continue to see Buhari as a bad president and the thieves in our polities are riding on that to steal back the power to continue to give excuses why we continue to spend money for over 16 years without a single completed land mark projects.

It is transmission for now. DISCOs can only distribute what they are getting. We have power generation, transmission and distribution.

The function of Transmission is wheeling Electrical Energy from Generation to distribution and it is obvious that DisCos are rejecting most energy transmitted to them because they want to exploit customers through estimated energy bill and cause losses to the Generation. Transmission Company is always neutral and keep DisCos on their toes against energy rejection. TCN released data of September Energy transmitted to the DisCos and it is on record that DisCos rejected thousands of Mega Watt of Power because they don't want to pay at the detriment of estimated billing that is why DisCos won't easily allow metering system to work.
