Anyone using Books to learn to code is actually an idiot. Books are for seasoned programmers mainly as a form of reference.

As a Beginner, you don't need books to learn a language. You will end up frustrated, confused and you will feel like giving up. Ignore any clown that suggests books to you.

Instead of books, use videos. Videos are practical forms of learning; you see what's going on and you can immediately apply it. You can get udemy courses or quality YouTube tutorials that walk you through every step.

This isn’t true.
Stop misleading beginners.

There are also ”quality” books out there that walk you through every step.

I've read all the so called "quality" books recommended here, on Reddit and on Quora. They are all trash. The only parts worth reading are the introduction and table of contents. They don't explain anything; just poor examples and pointless ramblings.

Going from reading some book on programming to building an App will take you 10 times the time using a video course would.

Byte of python might be more beginners friendly than any video

Videos will explain the steps and any other thing you need to learn. Only an idiot time waster reads books on programming.

Whatever books will teach you in 3 hours, a good tutorial video will teach you in 30 minutes.

it's just about preference but even I like to start learning by watching video tutorial rather than books

Videos are good . I suggest beginners start with videos .There are some things you can’t learn from books such as css animations especially the complex ones. But you can’t build anything with videos alone , you will still have to read books and documentations . Combining the two is always the best option.

I was referring to beginners.

i have downloaded & read a lot of ebooks and i agree with you to some extent many of them could be very confusing and very difficult for beginners to understand.

However i have come across a few books that are beginner friendly e.g Head first series & the for Dummies
Re: Thread closed. by etoluw: 2:46pm On Oct 25, 2022
Eventually when you've passed the beginners stage you might need ebooks to explain things for you

It amazes me how people are bold to show their level ignorance on this platform.

Calling people "idiots" for learning through reading books.

I SMH.

If you need any programing book for free, you can download from this website : https://z-lib.org/

This is a big lie!! I have been programming for almost 5yrs now and its been reading all the way. Nothing teaches programming like a good book. First, i started with dough lowe, Java programming for dummies, second, deitel deitel and finally Bruce eckel. I used various PDF materials for Spring. If its not reading, its not for me, period.

I highly disagree with OP.

It depends on how well you can assimilate the concepts one is trying to grasp and it depends on the book one starts with.

Take me, I'm learning C.
Lots of videos on C but stuck with C programming book by King. Deleted the videos to allow for space for them books and music

Algorithms?
Books (one by Sedgwick, another a hand guide to breakdown the complexities of the algorithm).
Tried watching some but oh boy, each creator has their own way of writing code and most don't explain some concepts properly, only doing half and expecting you to read the rest(yes, read)

Debugging?
Beginners should waste time looking for videos that answer his/her problem instead of cultivating a reading habit by reading docs and checking out man pages?

Overall, books trumps videos anytime and these books got exercises and mini projects which increases in difficulty as one progress.
Plus you don't really learn if you copy whatever the person you're watching does but it's different if you read about it, wrote the code and it worked.

I think this is the major problem, generally when you start learning new stuff, you're eager to tell everyone how to learn. People cannot just calm down and relax to learn for at least 6 months before they start advising us on how to do bla bla bla.

At some point you would need to learn from books because some concepts would need proper reading before you can understand.

Ya... The OP should focus more on learning than trying to show off... It's obvious he knows very little...

I'm a beginner yes, but this thread is referring to beginners and as a beginner who is learning I believe I am able to give a decent opinion.

I'm naturally intelligent and a very good researcher. I've downloaded and read everybook suggested on the internet, including the ones suggested on this thread, and I've downloaded every video course recommended on the internet. I've carried out my experiment: I learn 3 times faster using videos.

If you are a beginner, you are free to listen to the clowns who are criticizing me. You are free to use books to learn. The result of this is that your development as a programmer will be slowed down. You will eventually learn what you are reading, but trust me, you'd learn faster using videos.

Imagine using books to learn React. Imagine how many months you'd spend still understanding the basic concepts. LMFAO. If you like ignore my advice, at least you will be making the job market less congested.
