Popular Nigerian singer, Portable, has mocked Nigerians who brag about owning Mercedes Benz car in Nigeria, IGBERETV reports.

The Zazu Zeh crooner who travelled to Germany, said the luxury car which many Nigerians take as a symbol of class and status status, is used as taxi in Germany.

He shared a video of himself saying this in Düsseldorf, Germany. He captioned the video on his Instagram handle;

can this loud, ignorant drugged up idiot and his illiterate followers understand that not only Nigerians brag with Benz.

Benz is a worldwide superior an expensive car. In rich countries, taxi companies use luxury cars for taxi and for hire service too. Just as you have 5 star hotels superior to your own homes, you have superior cars used as taxi in rich countries where the car manufacturers actually encourage that use to make their brand popular.
And yes Benz are expensive even in their home country, Germany.

In a country like Nigeria where we can't even produce tyre, we use hellbound rickety vehicles for taxi and we assume it's the norm abroad

While I get his point, Nigerians dey try abeg. We don’t have any credit or mortgage system in place. So anything we want to buy, we have to save up for it and pay in cash.

It is still a big deal here. Minimum wage is N30,000 (less than a bag of rice) and some state governments say they can’t pay it.

8 years ago Toyota hiace brand new (hummer bus) was 4.5m, the high roof one was about 5.2m. That same bus now is over 30m.
Brand new Honda civic, corrola, kia optima etc were all in the range of 2.5-3.5m. Those cars now are atleast 12m and 20m!
Last year hyundai creta was 13.5m while the sonata was 18.5m, I hear today the creta should be hitting 18m and the sonata over 20m.
Back then you can make a deposit and pay eg 60 to 70k monthly for 4 years. Now, you make deposit of eg 20% in millions, then have to pay maybe 500k monthly. How many people can pay that much?
Meanwhile, salaries has remained stagnant.
7 years ago, I rented out an equipment steadily for 50k, it use to give me equivalent of roughly $350, today I charge 120k and people cannot pay, yet when they do, it gives me $160 with increased running cost. NO BE JUJU BE THAT?

Now you see 2003, 2010 etc cars that should be in the scrap yards on our streets and people celebrating their purchases in millions. So sad. I hear 03 corolla now is over 2.8m!

What others take for granted comes into Nigeria and become big deals. Imagine poor people's food in Chinese restaurants and pizza are status symbols in Nigeria. Go figure!
