The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced its plan to redesign and circulate a new series of banknotes - N200, N500, and N1,000 - starting December 15th, 2022.

Existing banknotes for these denominations will remain legal until January 31st, 2023.

What does this mean for Bank customers?
• Customers can start depositing existing naira notes into their Bank accounts to enable them to withdraw the new notes when they are in circulation.
• Bank charges for cash deposits only are now suspended immediately.
• Customers will no longer spend the existing banknotes (N200, N500, and N1000) come February 1st, 2023.

I think the timing is OK considering the fact that many politicians must have stashed billions of naira for next year's election.
