I like and misses that spinach/veg in the op 2nd pix. Very good in stews.

I bought the seeds on Amazon and planted it but didn't germinate.

Mariangeles, can you send me spinach seed to plant ?

Anyone knows where one can buy spinach seeds online ?

Iya mi, I wish I could help you o, but I don't even know what the seeds look like. cheesy

The last time I had green (as it's popularly known around here), I found out that I preferred ugu to it, and that I didn't miss it as much as I thought I did. undecided
There's this slight bitterness to it, compared to ugu that is sweet. (If I wanted bitter, I'd go for bitter leaves)
Probably why the Yorubas blanch it before adding to obe ata.

Some of us have moved to the cities but sometimes recreate the local delicacies we enjoyed while in the village.

In this video i reminiscence on one of the yam recipies that always come out top notch. Enjoy!!!

Recipe:
Yam
Green vegetable
Palm oil
Onions
Red pepper
Seasoning
Crayfish
Ukpaka(Ugba)
Salt

I just tried this recipe and it turned out sooo good. I haven't enjoyed a meal so much in a while.

(I bookmarked this thread about three months ago or so, but only got around to trying out the recipe today because my siblings came around and I wanted to prepare it for them.)

Haha. Thanks for sharing the recipe. grin grin I have a few things to improve on the next time I make it. I should have cooked the yam a bit longer so that it absorbed more water and the final meal doesn't end up too dry. The quantity of the yam I cooked may also have been too much compared to the sauce. I only paid attention to the quantity in your video after I was done and noticed the 'dryness'.

The usual yam porridge I make just requires adding some ingredients to boiling yam, and I use a lot of water for it so there's plenty of sauce and the yam turns out somewhat creamy. To achieve that result here, I probably need to cook the yam long enough to absorb plenty of water as well as use a lot of sauce, yes?

You are correct. For this recipe I prefer to use those white yams. I cook it till very tender and its moist, so when you add the other ingredients it sucks it all up.

It requires enough palm oil too, the oil and moist creamy yam makes it appear as porridge.

Well done, you can never compare outside food to the one you made yourself with so much love and care.

Thanks! I'm already salivating in anticipation of the next time I make this.

Nice and healthy meal smiley

You bet. Very healthy.

For what it’s worth, o.p., I think you’re a wonderful cook. It’s just that me and Ofe-Owere don’t agree with each other (at least not yet) but that would probably be the case as it stands no-matter who makes it. It isn’t personal.

We all know that, she knows that, and she doesn't need you to tell her that.

And I don’t need you to tell me that I’m a mean know-it-all who tries to be overly-critical of everything. Please stop trying so hard to be offensive as far as I’m concerned. It doesn’t make you seem smart or like you’ve got one up on me. Just petty.

I'm not even trying to be "offensive", let alone "trying so hard".
Just being forthright with you; you're overly critical!
