They need to wait for the school to give a go ahead via email to apply for PSW. She can't apply without the school forwarding her name to home office that she's graduated and eligible to apply. They can still apply in January and that's fine, infact I'll advice they apply in January as it gives them more time if their visa is approved sometime in March, applying in November reduces their time in the UK

But they still have to reach out to the school as opposed to just waiting because some of these universities are not proactive and are unceremoniously slow; case in point my uni. So OP should still reach out regardless. I understand the need to add extra time on the Visa, however, having a PSW visa increases your chances of getting a better job which you can then use to transition to a Tier 2 visa even faster. Waiting until March for the visa is counter productive in my opinion as you might lose out on good employment because of this. However, to each their own.

You're totally right.. Though OP mentioned they had reached out with no feedback, just like you said, they should keep trying, my point is just that they should not apply till they are certain their names have been forwarded, applying before this can come back with a refusal and I personally know who this happened to.

With an in time application, you can still get a job, I did. All I did was to let them know, I had an application with home office and I provided the reference. TBH, not all employers would take you with that but it still happens. I wish them all the best with any decision they decide to make.

You shouldn't be in a hurry to apply for PSW. You should be hustling right now to get a sponsored role. PSW should be the last option if no job materialises and you can apply very close to your student visa expiry.
Actually now is a good time for job seekers as companies plan and start recruiting for the new year..

I applied for jobs and one told me to renew my visa first before giving me the job

Get her to contact her school and make enquiries. Most likely the reason would be that all her results would need to be out and her degree awarded before she gets a go ahead to apply for PSW.

However, it's nothing to worry about, if your visa expires 23rd of Jan, you can still apply for PSW 22nd of Jan and remain in the country till its out. The university most likely knows this and would give her a go ahead before the visa expires but advice her to contact them.

But will they be able to work?
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Ahappygirl: 3:04pm On Nov 06, 2022
If they are currently employed they can still be with their company and give the renewed visa when available. If unemployed, might be lucky to get a company who understands that your current visa is still valid till you get a decision, they'll ask for your in time application and reference number. TBH, not all companies are that patient.

Don't let it discourage you, it is the same for most ppl initially, it just takes one positive response to change the entire story.
So keep going at it, there are many employers who will sponsor without issues.

Hi everyone,

Please I need help, I got into the UK few weeks ago with a healthcare restricted visa. I was suppose to resume on the 1st of November but my employer has said dbs needs to be gotten before work can start. They have updated the home office with a new start date by 20th of November. Please I will like to know if I can get any other part time job as a way to get income and keep busy instead of staying at home 24/7.

I want to know if it is against my visa to get other part time jobs that are not healthcare.

Thank you

Amarathripple0:

If you mean, post study work visa. You have to apply before your visa expires as long as you meet the requirement eg. you have graduated and the school can confirm this. However, if you have changed your visa from Tier 4 to Tier 2, you cannot apply for a PSW as it falls still under Tier 4.

mizGene:

Deadline is the day your student visa expires. So if it has already expired, you can't apply again.

In my case, I was exempted from tax as a student but got a letter from council to start paying tax some weeks after the school notified me that I have graduated.

I initially wrote back that I am still a student because I have a date on my BRP till January 2023 and council requested I should send Student status letter.

I rushed back to school web to download as usual. Only to find out I have been blocked shocked shocked shocked. Sincerely, individuals have to prepare for surprises grin grin grin. I thought I will be exempted till January or when I start making taxable salary.

I recently took a job after my program but pays less than £800/month.

Pls can I still write for exemption/reduction till January or when my Salary is above £1k/month.

My house rent (£950/month) and many other unexpected expenses depleted my POF very fast. Recent high exchange rate is not helping matter too. Thanks

I was working with this strategy to possibly get sponsored between now and January and if that failed, take PSW option by January 2023 close to expiration of current BRP date.

It’s been tough seeing any company willing to take new employee with less than 6 months to leave to remain date.

I guess right thing to do now is to take PSW on time and be in better position for other opportunities. Aunty Stella dey one corner too grin undecided

I will be glad those who knows/recently completed PSW application can help me answer below questions:

1. Can I pay for PSW application with AMEX card? Preparing my options and strategy
2. Which date will be on new BRP? Date of application or when the visa is issue?
3. Will I be able to complete my dependents (husband and kids) online or have to visit a VFS for biometrics? What’s the experience like?
4. I have read different date to complete this PSW application (2days and 4-8weeks)? Which one is correct or it depends on individual application.
5. Not related to PSW. Is there any mobile company that offers family package of home WiFi and multiple sims (4-5) for mobile phones?

Trying to see if I can save money from combination of Vodafone and giff gaff for family.

Thanks in advance.

Your university will have issued you with a letter stating when your course will end which you sent to the council to back up your application for the full-time student exemption.

It is that date that determines when your exemption from council tax ends, not the date on your BRP, which includes an extra 4 months to enable students take resits, where applicable, and generally settle everything they have to do in the UK, etc. before they have to leave the country.

Read the conditions of your visa again but this time slowly. It clearly states the type of jobs(additional) that you are allowed to take.

You post is not clear what your status is. On student moving to skilled worker?
UPDATED [s]Already in the UK: seems so from your post[/s]
On taking additional work, there were discussion some pages back (though on removing the non-restriction for healthcare worker and placing them back on max of 20 hrs for additional work). Can't remember what page again.
Generally speaking, one might do limited additional work. Not sure in your case, as you've not started!

Taking on additional work
You can do additional paid work on this visa as long as you’re still doing the job you’re being sponsored for. You can also do unpaid voluntary work.
- You can work up to 20 hours a week in a job that’s either:
-- in the same occupation code and at the same level as your main job
-- in a shortage occupation
... ...

As to whether your employer can bar you pending successful DBS, that's a different dynamics.

Your wife shouldn’t pay council tax whilst you’re a student. Apply for a refund.

I understand that it can be frustrating but she only just finished so she shouldn't put too much pressure on herself. Eventually, you both will get good jobs. Honestly the trick is to not be too forward to disclose the type of visa you are on. As a student looking for full time work ahead of your course end date, never say you are on a student visa. Just say you have a Visa that allows you to work, and when they ask you what type of visa and when it expires, Just say Tier 4, tell them the date and then follow up with " I'll renew the visa before it expires for 2 more years". Some are kind to students and don't care about your visa type but a lot of these recruiters don't understand it so they just use it to cancel you. I mean just look at the attached.

That's where the knowledge of underwriting terms comes in handy.

Nope.
Even if you've already listed PECs, they will then claim that the medical issue you're trying to claim for is a PEC. wink

1. Check for the payment logos on the payment page, if amex isn't listed, you might not be able to use it.
2. Date of issue - usually the date the decision is made.
3. You should be able to. Once you submit, you'll be told the next steps to complete.
4. Depends on each individual application. Might be faster or slower depending on different factors.
5. Yes but you need to check what each provider offers and the connection in your area. Used to have one with BT but that was with a landline - not sure what they offer now.
You can check out vodafone - https://www.vodafone.co.uk/broadband-sim-only-deals
Your best bet might be to take out your wifi and phone contracts separately as that might end up being cheaper depending on usage/plan.

Hello all,
Please help, i am a dependent as my wife is on a student visa (SEPT 2022).

There was an ERROR on my BRP which i have submitted via UKVI since 5/Oct/2022 (immediately i picked it up when we arrived the UK), and till now - no update / feedback on the NEW BRP.

My son who is 9yrs was given the "RIGHT TO WORK" , while mine was "NO WORK, NO BUSINESS" - Obviously this was a mix-up/mistake.
I raised for both myself and my son's BRP to be corrected.

I have not been able to work for over 1 month. Is there a way i can check the current status?

I have sent email, made calls but all to no avail.
Please help.
How long does it take normally
Also, how can i escalate or get my corrected BRP on time so i can start working asap.

Thank you

Thanks a lot @Bourne007

I have tried this using the option "I have a biometric residence card or permit".

It returns "You do not have the right to work in the UK".
I could only use the my BRP number (which is the one with the 'wrong' condition).

I want to if anyone is in the same situation (or knows someone who made similar correction recently) and how long does this normally takes.

Checked with a friend with similar issue. It took him 6 weeks to get a replacement BRP.

He however used the same brp number to check right to work which later reflected at some point

Thanks dustydee for the response. Unfortunately, I'm not very clear on it. Do u mean we leave this error going forward? If so, it means she breaks contact with her family and won't be able to invite any of them to the UK as she won't be able to prove relationship.
