Thank you so much for this @Bourne007 . I really appreciate.

I will be on the lookout and keep checking everyday.

Bourne007:
Checked with a friend with similar issue. It took him 6 weeks to get a replacement BRP.

He however used the same brp number to check right to work which later reflected at some point

This is wonderful, thanks a lot for this post, you just gave me comfort over my decision to open a investment ISA last which I currently put in £200 monthly for investment in aggresive funds and do not intend to touch. I have also been dilly dallying on opening a JISA for my kids not thinking that it can as well be a plan to fund their Uni fees. I am opening their JISAs right away. God bless you

Which bank did you open the ISA savings?

Please how did you go about your refund with megabus? They seem to have an impossible service policy.
ugoonuoha:
Just to help anyone out there not doing it yet, please always file for compensation/refunds whenever you've received sh#tty service in this country. I've done it a couple of times and it's been successful.

For example, Virgin Atlantic delayed my flight from Nigeria to London...over 5hrs delay, I got over £500. Megabus delayed my trip for 4 hours (bus broke down and no replacement, we were stranded in middle of the night), I got the ticket value refunded.

Train was delayed (regular occurrence nowadays)...I got a partial refund.
Basically, I'd rather have an efficient service, however when they choose to mess up, it is great to have this as a fall back option. It is very rewarding...just thought to share.

PS - Just wish one can sue some Govt Agencies sha. Home office, NHS and co. will go bankrupt lol

Is it possible to get a refund if you don't want to use the bus ticket again? I have two I don't want to use for 2 weeks to London from Middlesbrough. Can sell it if anyone is interested

They delayed me two weeks ago for like 4 hrs. Got to my destination 11pm

A number of factors come into play. The overriding nonetheless is 'what do you want', what do you want to achieve as a person/family?
Those factors include
- location linked with pay. consider what dupyshoo, rayralph, Hwy9 have hinted.
- -- ... But I intend to email them stating 40-45k ... I'll say in the circumstances, you might want to indicate £40-50k
- -- even at that, salary is ultimately nothing but a 'figure' that gets you by the month! It is relative, subjective. The reality differs from person to person.
- -- ... 7 years of experience in cybersecurity ... | For negotiation, your 7yrs might not really counts. It'll revolve around the role itself. In this instance, Asst Mgr.
- -- Inbtw, it is not uncommon to see WIDE salary gap/discrepancy within the BIG 4 and BIG 6. In fact, in most 'audit' firms. I've seen that often. To compound, the gap gets wider, more than 'mind the gap', when salary increment creeps in year-on-year based on (the so-called) performance appraisal scores!
- Salary structure
- -- what are they offering.
- -- Typically basic.
- --If it's total package, check what it constitutes
- -- Any private care: BUPA
- -- Pension contribution %
- -- Bonus
- -- ... NB: At times, some of the 'non-financial' weighs more as you aged!
- Role: I note you've already stated its IT security audit
- -- Will you only be supporting Audit cycles. In that case, will your role be constrained to those ITGC stuff.
- -- Will you end up in narrowed sector or tech spectrum: SAP only, Oracle only or wide spectrum of technology solutions (subject to clients!). To be honest, most times, this comes to light only after months on the job. Lemme quickly chip in here that in most audit firm, to get to=hose '4' & '5' performance review scores, you must be an entrepreneur within the whole Audit firm, sourcing for 'work' to be done, collaborating and 'innovating'. Unfortunately, most get this done through 'smoke' breaks, lunch out, drinks out with an 'eye-service' attitude!! Eish, don't get me started.
- -- What is the roadmap to becoming a Manager (where you actually get to review collated (audit) work papers, prepare reports, be part of getting mgt response to audit findings, and be part of scoping audit engagements). PS: some might throw an Asst Mgt into a hybrid mode of senior consultant/associate and Mgr.

Lastly, I know I commented on cybersecurity earlier in the year. I'll try looking for the post.
A lot of 'new-breed' gloss over cybersecurity. unfortunately, the press ain't helping, and neither are mgt/directors assisting as they pick up buzzwords in-flight. NIST, ISO ain't assisting much as well, although we're starting to see ISO getting 'cybersecurity' out there in their 'new' standards. I guess ENISA leads the pack in interrogating 'cybersecurity'. With all of these, HR get's into the loop with improperly or unstructured job roles, and recruiters run amok sourcing fit-for-use candidates; at least HR and recruiter can at least get fit-for-purpose candidates!.
Thanks for the comments here. It should assist people in starting to understand what is it to say cybersecurity. Indeed, it is, or it has become, an umbrella word for all things security that bothers on 'cyber' or 'digital'L Computer security, IT security, IT/IS systems security, IoT/industrial security, good 'ol information security.
We can discuss all of these, possibly in the technology thread. Let's come back to life in the UK smiley cheesy smiley

I have come to realise that understanding the non-salary benefits are as important as the Annual Pay. When I moved from a Company without benefits to one with benefits, I realised that the benefits alone amount to almost half of the Annual Pay but no one talks about it.

Wait o, did you say there is a UK Technology Career Thread?

Does anyone have experience with single rate tariff vs day/night rate tariff?

I'm thinking of moving to a single rate tariff because its stressful waking up at night to turn on/off storage heater because of night rate and we use most of our electricity during the day.

Which is better?

You don’t need to wake up at night, it’ should be on a timer.

Which bank did you open the ISA savings?

I opened mine with Barclays but opened the kids JISA with hargreaves Lansdown. I might move my ISA from Barclays to HL cos Barclays fees are not favourable in line with my current holdings at the moment.

I learnt moneybox is nice as well

You'll still end up paying less for whatever amount of energy you use during the off peak period, so I reckon you'll be better off with a dual rate tariff. Savings might be small if you are unable to move your heavy usage to the off peak period though.

Above link has a number of providers, list is not exhaustive though. For example Vanguard is missing on the list and they have a reputation for being the cheapest in terms of cost, although it is very restrictive as you can only buy vanguard funds and can't buy individual stocks as well.

If you look back on this thread, we have discussed this in detail previously. Storage heaters work on dual tariff I.e off peak and day tariff. They are supposed to charge up during the night when there is off peak usage (cheaper electric) and then release the heat during the day. There is also some off peak electricity during the day in the afternoons but this will vary with your supplier. You can use your washing machine, dishwasher and other appliances during this time to avoid having to wake up at night. Your storage heater and hot water boiler are usually hard wired to the off peak meter. Changing to a standard meter will mean re-wiring and I don’t think this is straightforward and simple.

How much is your night rate (off peak rate) compared to the day rate? You will find that you are making considerable savings by restricting your energy use to off peak period compared to someone on a standard tariff.

@Bourne007 ,

Could you help me check with your friend if he got a mail pre-delivery of the BRP or not.

I was in an Airbnb for my first 4weeks of arrival and i used the address hoping it will come before i leave apartment.

It has a been difficult following up with the owner to help check 'with current occupant' if i have any letter there (from time to time).

At least, if an email precedes delivery - that will serve as a "notification" that my BRP is ready.

Thank you.

It depends on your risk appetite. Cash ISAs are no different from normal savings accounts. Just that interest earned is tax free. However the interests rates are little but capital and interest are not at risk.

For stock and share ISA, Capital is at risk and you are likely to get lower than u invested but u stand a good chance of increased value of investment in the long run which can be very huge but u can even get lower than you invested over the long run (this past year was terrible for shares and funds).
