Given the billions of solar systems and galaxies in the observable universe, on the scale of probability i’d say intelligent life has existed and still does exist on planets that were or still exist today….planets that are the right distance from their sun and have the right stable and predictable conditions for life to exist. However, i doubt we’d ever be able to make some kind of contact with one another due to the vastness of the universe and its expansion at near speed of light! Even pictures taken with the best telescopes made by man only show distant galaxies as they existed when photons of light left them billions of years ago and headed in our direction. Some of the planets in them that were perfect at the time for intelligent live to have existed, may either not exist at present, or the civilisations on them would have risen and become extinct just as it would happen with us some day on earth. The planets may have been swallowed by their sun….been hit by harmful gama rays from some nearby celestial body (i think they’re called pulsar stars or something like that)….or been hit by a free-moving rogue planet or body that has become detached from its orbit around its sun!
