For those trying to learn trading, stocks and shares, crypto, etc just to avoid keeping their money in the Bank where Inflation will be sucking life out of it. You might be missing your Fixed Deposit back home where that Bank was giving you 10% per annum.

Consider opening a Stocks and Shares ISA, and invest your money in ETFs and Index Funds. If you're less inclined to risk, you can invest in bonds instead. Some of these funds do as much as 30% a year. But generally for Stocks, you can be looking at 7% per year and about 3% for bonds.

These remove the risk of analysing funds to know when the stock is going up or down.

Hi everyone, something happened in my house recently, there was a leakage that soaked the pop, and it fell on my head, it happened on Sunday, my landlady said pay half of next rent, she'll fix it this week. Today is Wednesday nothing has been done, she is telling me that the laborer's van is in the shop which doesn't make any sense to me. My work is very tough and I come back to sleep on the couch in the common room with no privacy, wake up with body pains I think I am taken for granted. What can I do?

Stop working, stop going to uni, contact your GP, make sure your mental health is ok.

Hello house, please I've come with my questions again.

Please, if a person on UKRI funded PhD happens to get a sponsorship and wants to switch visa while still continuing with the PhD (won't interfere with normal school activities), do you think the school would have a problem with it or withdraw the funding? After careful consideration personally, I'd like to hear the opinions of y'all should I have missed to factor in something important. Please what are the pros and cons?

On a visitor's visa you go private all the way, except when person get an emergency and goes to A&E.
You can't rock up to a public hospital and ask to see a doctor and say you wan make them bill you later.

Go private. There are several private hospitals around and appointments are more readily available.

£3 Billion heading to Nigeria yearly does loads to support the Nigerian economy. What the UK gets from school and immigration fees off Nigeria is much less. The added productivity Nigerans bring to the UK is well over that sum. So much for Nigerians abroad being poor.

Good to see Kuda coming to the UK. It would be worth knowing what license they hold. i.e money transfer, banking, money processing e.t.c

Does anyone here know what their prevailing rates are?

Hello All

Just a quick question

Is it possible to get sponsorship and still remain on 20 hours per week while still studying?

Can one switch visas based on that?

Thank you!

The 20hr/work restriction is a Tier4/Student visa restriction, if change visas, you're no longer bound by the rules of the former visa

My honest opinion will be, aim to move to Global Talent Visa (Researcher route). Why? With a UKRI funding, if it were me, my focus will be on ensuring publishing in top 20 or top 50 journal in the discipline (at worst at least a journal on Scopus). Once the PhD is completed or with about 6 mths to the end of the PhD or once submitted or submitting the thesis, you go all out for PGRA posts. Currently, with an offer, with publication and with a PhD (or PhD in view) , you should get Global Talent Visa (researcher route). It comes with tons of benefits!
NB: for the Global Talent Researcher route, you do not have to be in digital technology.

PS: I'll perhaps chip in that one is not compelled to spend the full 3 (or 4 yrs) for PhD. It's (technically) possible within the 2nd to 3rd gap!
In any case, opting to work (switch visa) and fast tracking your PhD boils down to personal choice.

With all above said, holding on to your UKRI funding might 'get a K leg'. However, it depends on the funding condition, which we're not privy to.

Global Talent, in a way, is a spin off Tier 1, the part that was covered by the defunct HSMP (which I had b4 collapse). Global Talent now covers more ground. In a way, it bridges the gap between the (difficult to scale) Tier 1 and the old HSMP.
... researcher/academic route: www.gov.uk/global-talent-researcher-academic
... ...
The researcher route would appeal to those that are research 'active'. Although a PhD is expected, it is not an absolute bar. IMHO, even if with a Master, one might scale through: your publications and research outputs count. The researcher route has about four sub-routes. The two I consider straightforward are
- Receiving a research fund (NB: this is from a UK listed research agency and not just the ones you get for doctorate research)
- get a (qualifying) research job

I'm not exactly sure I understand what it is you intend.
Switch from student to workers
Is the concern about the students' 20hrs restrictions, or
Is the concern about the additional work 20hrs restriction.

If it's the students, then you're no longer bound once you switch. Simply put, no restriction.
If, however, it's the limitation on additional work hrs after you've switched to workers, then you follow the rules on gov.uk | However, the challenge one will face is not the additional work, but keeping up with study and justifying the study and additional work in tandem with the work (one now has workers permit for).

Think ILR down the line. Think health, think quality of life.

You might want to also take a look at pages 450 and 476

semmyk:
... the UK Gov explicitly allows you. Also, most universities clarifies this.
What you can and cannot do
With a Skilled Worker visa you can:
- work in an eligible job
- study
- ... ...

Overview from Gov.uk
A Skilled Worker visa allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer.
This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa.

KCL (Kings College) emphasise that you “must intend to work”. Invariably, working becomes primary and study secondary! Ditto, the reverse

USW (South Wales) goes further to put beyond doubt
If you are in the UK in a work related immigration category..., you may undertake study that fits around your work. There is no condition which prohibits study. Therefore you are free to undertake part time or full time study whilst you are working. You should however be mindful of the following issues:
Work/study balance ... ...
Length of the course and visa expiration date ...
Leaving and re-entering the UK ...
What do you intend to do afterwards? ...

Kindly note that a number of UK universities have not updated their websites: Tier 2, Tier 4, Tier 5!!

Thanks semmyk for your advice. I don't intend on quitting the program (I have completed the first year, at most it's remaining 2.5 years) and I aim on hitting those targets as regards publications. The only thing is I don't want to be in academia, at least for now, I want to start out in the industry. I only want to fast track getting ILR/citizenship and then move to another country.

With fast tracking the PhD, even though it's possible, the funding condition was to spend the full years although when I spoke with my supervisor about it, he said he can contest it if highly needed. Spending the full study years is not a problem to me though, I just want to end the rat race of obtaining permanent residency ASAP and do something good with my life.

My only concern towards all these is I wouldn't want to lose the funding if I opt to switching to work visa and I just don't want to discuss it first with my supervisor as it might be too sensitive to him. I want to be certain of what I'm walking into and what's obtainable and then strike.

Check "Bodyguard" on netflix , London has fallen, and movies in their genre.

These movies are not recent, but they offer a peep into what UK intelligence is like.

I do a lot of documentaries actually. So youtube is your go-to.

Please if you find more, let me know too

This would have been a good idea only if the law enforcement treat cases of fraud with small charges. What it would cost him to get them to look at the case would probably double the amount in question.

However, those people Sabi the work if the proceed of crime is huge and they'll make solid cut themselves aside the payment you'll use to facilitate the investigation... Crazy system!

Yes. I believe there are people on this thread who have done that.
I would advice you speak with your schools international desk, they’d better be able to advice you. I think for many, they’d have the option of switching to part time, but since you only have dissertation left, it should be an easy pass.
