StrongestGuy:
Please share the link to the documentary. I've not been able to get much information about the project.
Check the blog article in the Weblink below. There is a video there about the project.

You are welcome to nairaland.

Keep your wits about you, look sharp, and don't be distracted by the tribal scurrilities of the few less-civilized denizens around here.

You'll do just fine.

Hello everybody!

I've just joined Nairaland, after reading silently as a guest for a while.

This particular thread deals with a very important issue: developing trans-african infrastructure.

The future prosperity of African countries will surely depend to a large extent on deeper intra-continental trade.

Looking forward to seeing more of such infrastructure.

Probably can't be completely avoided, because criminally-minded people will always find negative ways to take advantage of any development.

Let's hope the concerned countries' relevant agencies pick up the gauntlet of adequate monitoring/enforcement.

Easy human trafficking one way. Then arms smuggling the other way. Hmmm

Really...wow!

There's quite a lot going on.

Thanks.

NaijaphiliaBlog:
We are yet to confirm that, but it is very likely, because of the sheer scale of the project and its requisite transnational mediation/logistics.

We do know that the African Development Bank (AfDB) is involved in the following:

1. This year at the Africa Investment Forum from 15 to 17 March 2022, a total of $15.6 billion was secured by the Bank to develop a 1,081 km long 6-lane highway corridor from Lagos to Abidjan.

That corridor is where 75% of all trade in the ECOWAS region happens. It will transport everything and will be borderless in that people can travel freely across that corridor.

The Lagos - Abidjan highway will significantly impact the economies of 5 West African countries: Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria. The new highway will start at Bingerville, in the eastern suburbs of Abidjan, and terminate at Mile 2 (Eric Moore) in Lagos. It will have a total of 8 border posts.

2. The Abidjan-Lagos highway is also one of 16 projects included in the Priority Action Plan of the African Union's Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), which is being implemented by the AfDB.

3. Further, the Abidjan-Lagos highway will complete the Enugu-Bamenda corridor linking southeast Nigeria in West Africa to southwest Cameroon in Central Africa. The 443-km highway, costing about $430 million, is being financed by the AfDB.

4. The Abidjan-Lagos highway will boost transport (roads, railroads, ports and airports) in West Africa and help accelerate implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), a market of 1.3 billion consumers and with combined GDP of about $3 trillion.

5. The Bank also invested significantly in the Kazungula bridge linking Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia. After AfDB's investment, the wait time for trucks crossing the borders went from 14 days to only one hour.

6. The bank also invested $1 billion in constructing a highway between Addis Ababa and Nairobi, and which will eventually extend to Mombasa. That alone will allow an increase in trade of around 400% between Kenya and Ethiopia.

So, yes, you are right - the "African Unity Road" sounds like something up AfDB / Adesina's alley!

Urheadmaster:
Both good and bad will pass through the "African Unity Road” to their respective destinations tongue.
Yes, you are 100% correct.

That cannot be completely prevented.

Nice one, we need the gas pipeline fast tracked

Buhari really is giving the next administration tools for rapid development
Is a trans-african gas pipeline currently being constructed?

Wow, it is indeed another massive project:

"The 6,000 km Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project will cross 13 African countries along the Atlantic coast and supply the landlocked states of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali".

There are actually many megaprojects currently ongoing in Africa. These are some of them:

1. GRAND INGA DAM, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
- world's largest hydropower project.
- continent-wide power system.
- will generate 40,000 MW of power (enough to power nearly 50% of Africa).
- almost twice the size of China's 3 Gorges Dam.

2. DANGOTE OIL REFINERY, NIGERIA
- largest single train refinery in the world.
- capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
- already 97% completed.

3. LAGOS-CALABAR RAIÌLWAY, NIGERIA
- Length of 1,400 kilometers.
- cost US$10 billion.
- originally contracted to a Chinese company but now being pursued by Ameri Metro Inc., USA, after the Chinese were unable to raise the necessary funds.
- will link Port Harcourt, Uyo, and Aba.

4. MAMBILA HYDROELECTRIC POWER PROJECT, NIGERIA
- being built by China's Sinohydro Corp.
- cost US$5.8 billion.
- will be linked to 3 dams across the Donga River in Taraba State.
- total installed capacity 3,050MW of electricity.

5. THE GRAND DAM, ETHIOPIA
- being built on Ethiopia's Blue Nile River in Benishangul-Gumuz.
- capacity 6,000 MW.
- now 70% complete.
- once completed, will be Africa's largest hydroelectric power plant and the world's 7th largest.

These are just a few; there are many others e.g.
Bagamoyo Port in Tanzania,
Mega solar park in Tunisia,
Marine Drive Project in Ghana,
Eko Atlantic City in Nigeria,
New Capital City in Egypt,
Standard gauge railway in Kenya,
Lekki Deep Sea Port in Nigeria,
Konza Technology City in Kenya,
Trans-Maghreb Highway in North Africa,
Ghana-Burkina Faso Railway Interconnectivity Project,
2nd Niger Bridge in Nigeria,
Modderfontein New City in South Africa,
Transaqua Project in North Africa,
Zungeru Hydroelectric Project in Nigeria,

etc.
