PRESS RELEASE
POLICE NOT AWARE OF COURT ORDER ON REINSTATEMENT OF DISMISSED OFFICER

As IGP Would Never Disregard Court Ruling, Rule Of Law

The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state emphatically that the office of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+),NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, did not disregard Court Order or rule of law as the office is not aware of any Court Order, during the current IGP's tenure, with respect to a matter making the round in the media that the IGP disobeyed a Court Order for the reinstatement of a dismissed officer of the Force.

It is instructive to note that the case in point concerns an officer who was dismissed as far back as 1992, a few years after the current IGP joined the Nigeria Police Force, based on available facts gleaned from the reports. The most recent judgement on the matter was given in 2011 which should ordinarily not fall under the direct purview of the current administration of the Force. Thus, the news is strange and astonishing.

The IGP has however directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Force Legal Unit to investigate the allegation in a bid to ascertain the position of the court and profer informed legal advice for the IGP's prompt and necessary action.

The Inspector-General of Police reiterates his commitment to upholding the rule of law and synergizing with the judiciary to ensure quick dispensation of justice for an improved criminal justice system.

What kind of illiterate press release is this? A court of competent jurisdiction sent you to prison you said you are investigating the situation. Do they think the judiciary is subject to police internal administrative lapses. No where in the world will a court sentence a man to prison and he will ask the court to wait for him to conduct investigation before serving his prison sentence. Even if he was not the IG at the time the order was made, it is one of the incident of a public office to be responsible for any of it's lapses as the head of that institution. Oga IG, abeg go and serve your prison sentence.

This is sufficient for the IGP to face suspension or resign from office. It amounts to gross misconduct to disobey a valid court order and also the directive of the Police Service Commission. But this is Nigeria, and the IGP is going nowhere.

In summary, the court order for a remand of the IGP will be disobeyed.

Just like that for (of) the EFCC chairman.

Just like Buhari has done with Nnamdi Kanu and several other court judgments.

ASUU is the law abiding union.

The court is only macho with the likes of Inibehe Effiong and commoners like him.

What is sufficient?
There are two sides to every story. Did you read the story before commenting or reacting or the story does not matter? The information we have is that a court order was made in 2011 and so why is it this IG that should go to jail.

I do not know whether or not the statement is true and so we should ask questions diligently before forming opinions and taking sides
