Lurker4Long: This makes sense as a corruption-backed purchase as the platform makes no practical sense, I mean try boarding a foe vessel with this, I don't see it happening. They could have acquired proper platforms at Damen Africa or Paramount Group, I mean even Chinese ships could have been a better deal.... But I guess greasing hand palms works best. As for Angola, that's the capital city for SADC corruption, another perfect destination for Privinvest. 3 Likes |

CAS IN MAIDUGURI, PRAISES EFFORTS OF FRONTLINE TROOPS The Chief of the Air Staff(CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, was in Maiduguri, Borno State earlier today to assess the progress of the joint operation and commend the efforts of frontline troops. Air Marshal Amao specifically praised the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Chris Musa for his leadership at the frontline which has led to the excellent level of cooperation and synergy among all security agencies operating in the Theatre as well as to the high level successes being recorded daily. According to him, "The Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs are very proud of what you have all been able to achieve and because of your efforts, members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and indeed all Nigerians have every right to be proud." The CAS then stated that he was in Maiduguri to assess the progress of operations being undertaken and to encourage them not to relent but to continue to sustain the fire power against all enemies of the state. He also charged them to maintain the tempo and continue to seize the initiative. Responding, Major General Chris Musa informed the CAS that due to the increased level of joint operations, several terrorists as well as their key leaders have been eliminated while over 10,000 other terrorists and their families have surrendered in the last 3 months. He also thanked the CAS for his support to the Air Component who, according to him, has been the secret behind the numerous successes recorded. Air Marshal Amao, who was accompanied by some Branch Chiefs from NAF Headquarters, has since recovered back to Abuja. 2 Likes

Bravo Zulu for Ex Oxide Exercise Oxide 2022 has run its course with satisfaction expressed on the serials, ranging from Casevac to VBSS (visit, board, search and seizure), executed without a hitch on the “hapless” Lilian Ngoyi by French and South African naval platforms. The lead fisheries patrol vessel operated by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) was the “target” for the newest addition to the SA Navy fleet, multi-mission inshore patrol vessel (MMIPV) SAS King Sekhukhune I (P1571) and the Reunion-based French Navy patrol ship Le Malin (P701). Others involved in the exercise were the SAN Maritime Reaction Squadron (MRS), Naval Explosive Ordinance Device Disposal (EODD) and the Maritime Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC). In addition to its search and rescue (SAR) component, Oxide also addressed maritime crime with Ngoyi the target for VBSS serials. These were undertaken, according to a SAN Simon’s Town spokesman, to exchange and improve knowledge between participating navies via patrol and naval tactics. “All participants experienced no challenges from either defects or weather. The ships departed Simon’s Town harbour under simulated fast in-coming attack craft (FIAC) and commenced the search for participant vessel (Lilian Ngoyi) as the support vessel for the small craft. She was located and positively identified 8 nm west of Kalk Bay. This led to VBSS conducted followed by an onboard military police investigation. Military police on SAS King Sekhukhune I were dispatched to Lilian Ngoyi to conduct investigations. Simulated perpetrators were taken ashore and handed to local authorities for further processing. The legal aspects of the scenario were not omitted and law enforcement application was deemed successful. Search and rescue, in addition to testing the skills of naval personnel, saw co-ordination between the MRCC in Cape Town and its sister organisation on the island of La Reunion. “The rescue was based on a fictitious report to MRCC and the navy vessels were dispatched to the search area. While busy with the search, another area was reported to the ships to investigate. The second area is where personnel in distress were found. Co-ordination between Cape Town and La Reunion was successful with no challenges reported. “Oxide provided a good opportunity to smoothly conduct operations even when ships met at sea. FNS Nivose (F732) joined the two ships for a Passex and conducted military drills before departing for another mission,” according to the SAN. Overall Oxide 2022 was summed up a valuable exercise between strategic Indian Ocean partners with civilian authorities’ participation providing an opportunity to further boost co-operation on matters of common interest. Exercise Oxide 2022 started on 17 November and ended with a closing parade on 26 November at Oscar Wall in Naval Base Simon’s Town’s east dockyard. On parade were naval personnel from both countries who took part in the exercise. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/featured/bravo-zulu-for-ex-oxide/ 1 Like

IGpro1:There is a KDF SIGNALs company deployed in DRC for both EACRF and MONUSCO-QRF troops respectively. Their job is to make sure all forms of communication are available 24/7 i.e Video, data, radio.. etc Some of those trucks you see in the convoy that went through Uganda posted by @NTSA are mobile towers that will be stationed strategic areas to ensure all vehicles and personnel within the theater of operation can communicate effectively without needing to use long antennas mounted on the vehicles. I've been trying to google for the pictures that showed the mobile towers during the pre-deployment ceremony but after 10mins of searching I gave up, this is the best image I could find. 3 Likes

Lurker4Long:by saying he didn't see any comms on the vehicles I guess he meant those long antennas found on MRAPs plus I also guess the logistics guys were still communicating effectively through secure military radio channels. |
