and who told you your igbo language is not different from that of ikwerre? do you speak exactly the same thing with ikwerre? you are dumb too.

All IGBOs speak the same language called the IGBO language.

Every other thing na dialect. We have Ikwerre dialect, UDI dialect, Aniocha dialect, Ikwo dialect, etc.

@udezue you say: 1. echie are not ikwerre 2. all "real" ikwerre people are unequivocally igbo. I'd just like to know who made you the final authority on this matter being that you are not even from rivers state yourself.

All Ikwerre are igbos.

Pls focus on Edo matters.

Help me tell that daft that is trying to force another ethnic group to accept being same with his own. i wonder why some igbo people would even bother themselves about that; na wa o.
Formerly we use to look at minorities from the north like Plateau, southern kaduna, niger, bauchi, adamawa, nasarawa, etc. as hausas. But these groups today have come out to say they are not hausas and that is what is happening today, they are not hausas. But prior to the nigeria civil war they had that single identity, "hausa". can you force the birom man now to say he is hausa? can you force the southern-kaduna man now to say he is hausa? can you force the gwari man to say he is hausa? can you force southern-borno people and adamawa to accept hausa identity today?

Why can't the ikwerres refuse to be igbos too?

I think u are the one being daft here.

Ikwerre is IGBO and IGBO is ikwerre.

Why do u want to commit suicide because of this

If u were intelligent, u would have asked ur self what that man is doing as the president of ohaneze ndi igbo if he's not an igbo man.

Use sense.

Lol, Igbo people and their constant Identity wars. Abegi, let the Ikwerre people be the deciders, it is not by force. I don't see the Yorubas forcing the Itsekiris to call themselves Yoruba. Abeg, I am member of a sub group and I retain the right to identify myself how I please.

Ikwerre people cannot decide anything for the IGBO ethnic group.

lol @ kobo

major tribes have issues with trying to claim everyone.
depends on the person as well

Delta Itsekiris are NOT yoruba, tho they even speak a yoruba dialect who some say is the REAL yoruba- they see themselves as related to yoruba but not yoruba thats their own P. why force them to be yoruba? lol
There are many mixed people with yoruba and fulani who deny yoruba or deny fulani- thats their own P.
Urhobos dont call themselves Edos even though they migrated from edos.

Just as in America you have people who say theyre not white or black but biracial.

Infact Im no longer yoruba im Nigerian simple. lol

U can be a Nigerian, but Ikwerre is igbo
Re: I Am Not Igbo, I Am Ikwerre! by Nobody: 5:14pm On Mar 02, 2020
Leave it alone people. Ikwerres have a massive Igbo influence in everything except for eating Eba and fried fish I don't think Igbos do that. Ikwerres have to be of Igbo extration cause of their names and dialect. Amaechi is not an Ijaw name is it? The point is Ikwerres are Igbo. An Igbo can easily speak Ikwerre and vice versa. But here is the important thing; Don't hate them cause they don't want to be Igbo they have influence from other tribes too. What does Rotimi means in Igbo? Nothing Rotimi is a Yoruba name. Ikwerres have influence from Ijaw, Ogoni and other surrounding tribes but the major influence is Igbo and Igbo land should be recognized as their mother tribe. Just identify them as Ikwerres if they don't want to be called Igbo.

They are IGBOs

Zebra,
Ignoramus ka iwu. Ikwerre dialect is different just like Owerri, Awka, Anioma, Enugu dialects. There is no ONE IGBO language. Igbo language varies from state, town to town. The Ngwa dialect is more related to the Ikwerre and Riverine dialect than it is to Anambra state dialects.

Abakiliki of Ebonyi says "NJOKWA" while many us who speak the central Igbo say "Ndeewo" Greetings
Ikwerre of Rivers say "Meka" while many of us who speak the central Igbo say "Dalu" Thank you
Awka of Anambra say "Waa" in central Igbo its "Mba" NO
Awka - Obu - In central Igbo its "Obi" Heart
Anioma in Delta - "Emeke" - In central Igbo and Awka its "Emeka"

SAME DAMN meanings.

I called u dumb for dragging the IJAW and Efik into this. They are not Igbo jare. I am part Efik-Ibibio myself and have Ijaw relatives too. We know the difference. Ijaw and Efik languages are no dialects of the Igbo language so quit being silly.

From 2010-2016. Ride on. I'm ikwerre but whether they say I'm Igbo or not, it doesn't change who I am. My language sounds a lot like Igbo, my name is an Igbo name so, there is a relationship, no doubt.
It is not what people tell you, it is what you tell people, you guys projected fear and confusion first, then others bought into it. Na person wan tell you who you be? Very nauseating comment. You should be self aware and confident about it. Can you convince an Ijebu or Owo man that he is not yoruba?(Oyo) You will only try in vain. Even if the Owo man, his ancestors just migrated there from Benin three generations ago to Owo and he is aware, he will still find a link to Ife. What about the Ijebu sudanese ancestry story, did it scale through in giving Ijebu a distinct identity? It did not, even when men from your stock tried creating a distinction, men from that tribe kept saying I am Ijebu, I am yoruba.

If every Ikwerre person here tells everyone they come across they are Igbo, this thread will not be here. Many of the other non-Igbo group, are aware of your Identity, especially the learned ones, they are just trying to create confusion. It is about self denial for them, they wonder in awe how the Igbo can be so large

If they are given an order to murder every Igbo person in Nigeria, these guys will not spare you or a julius Agwu

Igboid I am not passive as it relates to this things, If it is not Edo, I am not so pumped about it, I just wanted to lend my voice to it, so you won't think I am indirectly supporting my brothers. I saw your mention in those threads

Ikwerre identify Igbos as Isu oma meaning good slave

They owned and sold Igbos as slaves for centuries so they cannot identify as Igbo
They see Igbos as slaves but are just being polite and politically correct in not saying so
When slave trade ended the population of Igbos exploded leading to what we have today but previously
Ikwerre and Ijaws used Igboland as a human poultry from where they harvested slaves

It has a different meaning in Ikwerre language
That there is similarity proves nothing

Even Yoruba which is miles away have similar words
like
Okuta stone
Apo bag
House Ile or Ule
Ear eti

To give a few examples

Ikwerre is a similar BUT different language to Igbo just like Spanish , Italian and Portuguese are similar but DIFFERENT
Isuoma may have a meaning in Igbo that does not mean it cannot have another meaning in Ikwerre
Isu oma is good slave
