Khanben:
Rivalries only form from teams repeatedly playing each other, especially if the strength of the squads allows for both teams to exchange wins especially in the playoffs.
The issue now is that, this past season, makes 4 straight NBA finals, where the two teams in the previous finals not only did not make the finals they did not even make the conference finals.
Good point! Indeed the league is very skilled, and there are half a dozen championship contenders unlike before.

To add to that, FA is very loose these days. Jordan, Magic, Bird, Isaiah, Hakeem (he was really retired when he went to raptors) etc stayed on one team their whole career. Worst case, some guys played for 2 teams, while at their peak. Guys like Barkley, Shaq played for 2 teams. Meanwhile, today, Lebron, the face of the league has played for 4 teams! Durant is on his way there as well grin

If the current celtics and bucks roster meet often in the playoffs for a few more years, a good rivalry would form. One could smell it last playoffs. Imagine Horford and Giannis banging bodies again and drawing blood in next years playoffs? Fireworks!

The truth remains, for good rivalries to form, players have to stay long enough in a franchise, be the face of that franchise, take on its weight, pains, challenges and history and bring that emotion each game.
There was something brewing there last season. Hoping for that match-up in the playoffs. Also Grizzlies vs Warriors, there is also a little animosity there

This poor Lakers look nothing compared to when they swooped the bubble ring, LeBron should probably ditch his dream of playing with his son and retire

Anthony Davies should enjoy and milk this contract because after the expiration of this contract, he will become a journeyman playing for the minimum.

I don’t how anyone gives him a guaranteed long term contract.. Man’s body is totally broken and damaged. He looks like he is laboring every time he touches the ball or makes a run.

Where is that chap Ersan that was arguing when I told him AD was made out of fine China. Buddy is carved out of glass. It's that simple

Doncic for MVP 60 21 10, insane numbers. All he needs is to get the mavs to be within top 4seed in the EC.
Re: The NBA Begins by steady986(m):
I don talk am before and I go still talk am again. No era of the NBA has had as much talent as this era. Luka, Jokic, Giannis, KD, LeBron, Steph, AD, Embiid, Ja, Tatum, Mitchell, Sabonis, Zion, Dame, Booker

Even the next tier is an all-star lineup: KAT, Butler, Brown, Kyrie, Harden, Halliburton, Garland, Shai, Siakam, Ingram, CJ, Ant, Gobert, DeRozan, Wiggins, Beal, Trae, PG, Kawhi, Lavine, Bam, Allen, Grant, Middleton, Jrue, Randle, Porzingis

This does not include guys like Klay, Russ, CP3 and Lowry who have passed their prime. This also does not include up and coming guys like Markennen, Bane, Lamelo, Mobley, Maxey, Jalen Green, KPJ. MPJ, Cam Johnson, Barret, Jaren Jackson, Anfernee, Banchero.

These are the people my LeBron had to go through. Poor LeBron. When you consider that he also had to go through guys like Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Pierce, Garnett dem wey don retire. Baba don try abeg.

I see LeNomad crying for another trade again grin grin

This man's entire MO is really to jump to the most loaded team in the league and take the path of least resistance to a chip

He's turned the NBA basically to a glorified AAU circuit. No way any right thinking man considers him the GOAT

Can't even stand ten toes down on his comments 2 months into the season. Shey they said he makes others better grin

They traded their future for a bubble ring. Ingram, Hart, Lonzo, Kuzma, KCP, Caruso and draft picks pretty much for AD and Westbrook

That's what happens when you try to always load up and hit the home run on stars and never build organically. Yeah you might fluke a ring or two but the aftermath is always terrible.

The trade for AD was not a bad trade. The inexcusable one is letting Caruso and co go just to bring in Westbrook who doesn't fit with your best players.

I didn't say it was good or bad. I mean it yielded a Championship that took a pandemic and 4 months rest to facilitate. So make of that what you will

The problem is when you make your bed and are now refusing to lie on it. I screamed myself hoarse on this thread about AD's injury history and have I been vindicated or nahh

Caruso, KCP, in this roster would not have made any difference if AD got frequently hurt.

This insistence on always going for the home run free agent and star name instead of building organically is what is biting LeNomad like so. They say he's old, he can't be on a building team menenemenene, but you can't always cheat the process. At some point the basketball gods will call you on your B.S

I'd hope the tradeoff of 1 title is worth the hassle of not being competitive for 3 seasons straight

True talk, no lies here.

But then again, lets assume Lebron never left Cavs. They would always get to ECF even with bad teams, and keep missing out on draft picks. At some point Dan Gilbert would have had to make a big FA trade for another superstar, which he did not want to do at the time.
If Lebron had not left Cavs, Cavs would NEVER have spent the money on FA that they did to bring Lebron back.

Anyhow, 4 rings is nothing to sneeze at. Live by the sword, die by the sword they say. I think Lebron's negotiations that brought him 4 rings has now put him in a tight spot. Lakers front office is not very smart, and Buss does not seem inclined to change it.

They tried to get him a support cast. Their focus was on depth. Not his fault no marquee Free Agent was going to leave their city to go to Cleveland.

Remember back then everyone was still fighting fair till the Celtics formed their big 3.

For example who was Dwight's second best player? Who was the second best player on Jason Kidd's Nets. The Heat was good for two seasons but reverted to dust after 06

The East was quite weak back then.

Dirk Nowitzki for instance had it much worse in the more competitive West

I think he squeezed out as much juice as he could out of his team hopping. I still maintain that had Lebron not formed the Heatles, KD would not have needed to join Golden State. He made it fashionable to take the path of least resistance

It's a domino effect. The Celtics were the biggest victims of the shortcut they took forming the big 3. Lebron formed the Heatles and ultimately got his comeuppance in the hand of the Warriors 7 years down the line

One thing about sports is you can't be in win now mode via free agency and still expect to compete every year. That's not how it works. Look at the Rams that mortgaged their future for a Superbowl last season, this season where are they? Out of playoff contention since Week 13.

Bulls, Spurs, Warriors. What do they have in common? Their best players came via the draft

Buss and Pelinka are just being made as scapegoats. When you have 3 max contracts and have traded all your picks till 2025. Where is your wiggle room and leverage going to come from?

Even if the Lakers finish in a lottery position this season the Pelicans can swap picks. That is what happens when you mortgage your future for Anthony Davis. Can't eat your cake and have it

Celtics started it, but "The Decision" by Lebron turned it a thing. Shortly after that, Durant would leave for warriors. But ya know, I like this new breed on nba stars. I feel like they have too much pride to be jumping around. Guys like Ja, Luka, Tatum will be on one team for a long time.

There needs to be a return to normalcy and parity.

When one person decides to take shortcut you can't come and dictate to people which shortcut is acceptable and which is not. Oyinbo call am hypocrisy

Anyway let's hope the parity continues and people don't try to take more shortcuts to easy rings moving forward

For parity, to return a lot of stakeholders have to stop this useless narrative that winning is dependent on one player. As long as people keep calling a player who played his best a choker for losing to a clearly better team, then this trend will sadly continue, if the narrative becomes more objective then guys will be more incentivised to stay put and make it work.

How can a professional world class basketball player play 42 mins against a poor defence and score only 5 points.
You don't have to be a scorer but your job all your life is to hop and put the ball in the net.
Some of the pass draymond green gets for this is crazy.

The truth is Superteams have always existed. But they were organically formed via the draft. The problem now comes when teams go about it in a cynical way

Where does it start and where does it stop? Everyone is out there trying to win. What counts is for everyone to fight fair. The choking narrative is not going to go away because there are certain players that always underperform in the brightest of lights.

For every Lebron and KD that took shortcuts there would always be a Dirk and Giannis
