My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by myspace(op): 8:35pm On Dec 18, 2022
Unreliable internet has always been an issue for me in Lagos. The best Internet Service Providers use Fibre Optics but have very limited coverage areas. So when I heard Starlink would be rolling out their Low Orbit internet service in Africa, It Immediately piqued my Interest.

I made a preorder for the service in May of 2021 with a refundable deposit of $99. I did this due to the projected rollout of the service by the end of 2021. I did not get any update from Starlink until early december of 2022. I was told to pay up a balance of $501 so my exquipment would be shipped.

8 days after making full payment, my Starlink Equipment was delivered to me by DHL. It is a plug and play device that is easy to install by following very simple steps on the manual. I mounted the dish on my compound, at a postion with good sky visibility and the device connected to an available Satellite within a few minutes.

My Internet experience is now the best I have ever had it, here in Nigeria.

Total cost of Equipment $600
Monthly Subscription for Unlimited Internet $43

This is extremely poor for the price it costs. MTN 4G is better. I don't want to talk about the 5G

This is Nigeria, not Europe.

I have MTN 5G. My 100gb data was exhausted within 5 days. Starlink is currently unlimited.

How much does hynetflex plan cost and for how much data?

Can you share it with neighbor or at work?
How many people can use it at the same time?
Re: My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by rookidmart: 11:00pm On Dec 18, 2022
$43 (~₦19k; ₦32k) monthly for unlimited data is not bad. Way cheaper than the competition.

Assuming an average speed of ~150mbps (18MBPS) for which FiberOne and iPNX charge for ~₦62,000

However, the installation costs are steep: $600 (₦267,000 at bank rate; ₦450,000 at black market rate) vs ~₦50,000 for FOB or iPNX.

Reliability is a concern here though - would it work well in bad weather? Rains would start next year so I'll be waiting for your feedback by then.

Thanks for sharing.

PS how do you pay for subscriptions? Naira or dollar card?

Good analysis, my concern is that at this time when there are no much subscribers, it should be much faster than this.

Please I have many questions. How did you exceed the $20 monthly limit when using Nigerian ATM cards? If you didn't use Nigerian ATM card to pay, how did you pay for the starlink kit and subscription in USD? Also can you test online gaming using starlink internet and see if it's smooth. I use Airtel to play online games. Sometimes it's smooth but most times, it lags.
What is the average latency like? I can see 60ms from the picture you posted. Is it always around 60ms?

128 devices can connect to starlink router at the same time but expect the starlink internet speed to drop when many people are using it at the same time

works well in rainy/stormy weather from YouTube videos I have seen. Speed may drop but no internet connection drop outs like MTN or Airtel though Nigerian rain can be terrible

this can't be 4g. Has to be 5g. The main advantage starlink internet has is being unlimited. If only Elon musk will allow us to pay for starlink kit and subscription in Naira.

Is it for real? You can download 100MB in a second?

It might be good for internet cafe or a compound filled with responsible users.

Am using 5G at a very cheaper rate. Why are this guys always scamming Africa?

I subscribe $30 monthly with free (unlimited) calls, SMS and MMS nation wide.

You can literally make calls free with streets free phone booths but my people still pays for every seconds of their calls.

You wan dey compare 5G speed with 4G speed? sad

I will choose unlimited Starlink over MTN limited plans

MTN do not offer any unlimited plan.

The only reason I can't go for it now is because of how expensive it is.

Thanks for the unboxing video. I believe you should be able to clock more impressive speeds depending on the time of the day.

100mbps = 12.5MB/s. Mbps is different from MB/s

how will you get MTN unlimited data for $43 per month? To me, starlink remains the best internet option in Nigeria if Elon musk will allow us to pay in Naira at bank exchange rate. I currently use Airtel 4g router data plan which offers 200gb for 20,000 Naira monthly. If you exhaust your 200gb before the month ends, you will receive 10gb data daily till the month ends. Airtel internet speed is 48mbps(6MB/s) where I reside and is unstable because sometimes I have drop outs that lasts up to an hour. With starlink internet, you get true monthly unlimited stable internet with average speed of 100mbps(12.5MB/s) for $43(approximately 20k using bank exchange rate) per month. The only problem with starlink internet is the high cost of the starlink kit($600) and mainly the fact you can't pay in naira
Re: My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by SirJerrie(m):
Installation Kit that costs $600(One-time payment) which you'll still have to pay for in Dollar (not even bank rate) is the only downside I see to this...

But, $43 subscription per month for unlimited (actual UNLIMITED) with relatively Low Latency and High availablity is the BEST you can get anywhere in Nigeria...

MTN do not offer unlimited data plan

Or make you tell me MTN unlimited plan that cost about 40k without FUP
