Into whose account was the money sent?
Into another account which isn't his, he claimed it belonged to the hospital

AlexBells:

But the main issue now is that we don't know if our friend is a victim or the culprit, he said he was forced to make the video call and all the chats which was being done with his phone by those who held him hostage, nobody believes him, everyone believes he's behind the heist.

With the way he laid on the bed and the trajectory of his body in the picture, it shows that his other hand was holding the camera to capture himself.

Therefore I submit, he is the culprit and the scammer.

Common scam. The guy just modified the scam after being caught.

It's called Lamba and common in whassap group of secondary schools.

All those people that you haven't seen in years, alot of them have changed. They are no longer those good guys and girls you used to know.

Una daft.
Check the invoice, the writing of the name diff from the amount. Which doc or lab scientist writes that way?
Check the 'four' before the 'Hundred', e get as e be!
Even the amount self dey questionable.

More reason, I will not make the mistake of holding anybody to any rubbish standard, let face the truth, we are mortals and disappointment is written when you think you know what a mere mortal is capable of.

In my dictionary now, I don't trust anybody, we are all after getting undue advantage of each other, either you like it or not, that's the way of the world. It's a coven of snakes, snitches and scorpions.

This sort of makes sense however at that point he was being himself, remember he said he was in the hospital so it is him who would picture himself, he even did a video call with one of our mates but he said it was under duress and that's a normal room not a hospital room, it certainly a group work becuase a lady sent a voice note, the lady spoke fluent English and the SUV drive with others, it either he is part of the gang or he actually a victim, he wasn't alone.

It really complicated, I wish there's someone who could throw more lights on this method of crime, for some reason I don't know what to believe but somehow I feel that my course mate could be a victim, it real complicated, they money can be replaced but not exactly for broken trust

It's not complicated..

Let him report himself to the police station, and give full detail. Then obtain police report.
Then send to the group if he is innocent, otherwise, the guy don scam him colleagues.

I find it really complicated but my friend's character is likely going to be stained, I'm also concerned about his emotional stability afterwards if there's no proof of his innocence as at this point no one would believe him.

It was an old school group where we both belonged, I didn't know him much back in school to vouch for his character but the incidence has thrown everyone in complex puzzle.

Yesterday, a hospital document surfaced in our old school WhatsApp soliciting for funds, stating that he has apendix and needs it removed, while some of our course mates sent money, some were skeptical and made further inquiries by calling the hospital, the hospital didn't have any such person under admission, a call was placed to the sister who recieved same message of hospital documents and fund demand.

Later on, there was several intriguing aspect to the story but today our course mate resurfaced, at first we made conjectures that he was the one behind the heist but he said he was held against his will by some gang who did the hospital documents, forced him on a video call and used his phone to message his contacts and group with the fund soliciting broadcast.

I called him few minutes ago, he is stating that he is a victim and feeling disappointed that people believed he would do a thing like that and that it is his first time in Lagos.

I don't really know what to believe but I wish to know if anyone ever had this sort of scam approach in Lagos. Could my course mate be innocent or a culprit?

He said he was living Lagos with the last money he had on him, I think at this point I have to accept it that he could be behind the whole stuff because he didn't make any attempt to investigate further, same message was sent to the sister whole said Sule don't play with being sick and he's even serving

Now to share a bottle of your favorite Pepsi with a nairalander, I'm sure it's not gonna happen again in this lifetime. cheesy

There is a thread about a guy that was a victim of Jon scam, who was abducted and after showing up at a supposed new job in Lagos. He said his phone was taken from him and was compelled to make calls to his family members telling them about how his new work place is next to heaven.

This sounds kind of related, he was very lucky to have escaped.

I read about how someone was called for a job interview from another state to Lagos. He said when he got there, he was held hostage collected all he have with him, and made to called any of his friends or relative to also come for the job interview. So anything can happen.

Bro...there is only one way to find out, confirm from people that paid if they paid to his account number or from a third party account...

If they pay to his account, It's his handwork...

If they pay to another account that's not his, he may be saying the truth...!!

Interesting...!! Then tell him you have someone in Fidelity bank who can track the account number and get the culprits, his next response should tell you if he's lying or acted based on hardship...
