What you said is true, to get students visa to UK is easier, also there's no special language certificate for Nigerians. The other countries you mentioned are very good..... but that Germany my sis has been struggling to pass the B1 exams for over 1yr now but all to no avail infact she's kind of defastated after spending almost 4m in the process just to pass this B1 language stuff. |

dplordx:Marseille is very nice, but some parts are a bit rough. Normal, considering the high level of immigrants. It was even founded by the Greeks over 2,600 years ago anyway. One of the largest Arab and Jewish populations anywhere in Europe. Also Frances' oldest city. The Mediterranean sea is right at your backyard with lots of sunshine. It is not as boring as other cities in the South like Cannes, Nice or even nearby Aix. Fairly cheap too. TGV to Paris is an extra advantage. Having either lived in or extensively visited all the major European alternatives people have suggested, UK has some unique advantages and disadvantages. It is easier to aspire to do a professional job in UK than most others, except Ireland. IT sector may be the only exception. Although German and Dutch are not particularly too difficult to learn as an anglophone person, people find it daunting. Culturally, we have become closer to UK/English way of life than any other European people. For obvious reasons. French is more difficult to learn for anglophones. Forget all those school " Tiens, voila Monsieur Mayaki" French back then. Correctly tackling liaison facultative and liaison obligatoire or masculine, feminine and neuter genders in oral French nor easy. The French are very fussy with their language and how you speak it. The downside is that comparable European countries have a better healthcare system than UK. It is for a reason that UK keeps tapping healthcare workers from developing countries. It has never been this bad for at least a generation. This becomes important with age and illnesses of old age start surfacing. Most other countries also have a better pre-tertiary education system. Tertiary education is superb though. Poverty rate is higher in UK population and inequality is worse in UK too. Africans who moved to the UK and have never lived in any other developed country usually don't know first hand what I have written above. They can only compare UK with the African country they came from. Having said that, the push factor in Nigeria must be very strong for people to want to relocate to virtually any country that cares to grant their visa. |

pansophist:When people relocate abroad particularly through school, for most people the most important thing at first is to be able to financially sustain remaining in school. The chances of getting a job, enough to sustain you when u dont know the language yet is low. I studied in Germany and I have a fair idea of what it entails. If you combine so many things, u will not perform exceptionally in any one. it's enough that u cant speak official langugae of a place like native speakers, u dont want to add having just an average grade in academics to that. Not many people have home funds/support, enough to pull them through school.....if you are going to stay on the right side of the law(which is advisable), then its wise to go to a place where u can easily slot into the system and not be excluded from some jobs based on language while u are still studying. I agree with you on the bolded, but u know people's realities are different. For some people too having that large naija community around is good for their mental health. FOr younger people, you are very correct, they should look at other places as opportunities are there too and even more than UK, and try as much as people to learn the language before they leave Nigeria |

Moye715:You are the irredeemable one. Schools that posses qualified teachers that speak British English aren't affordable by majority in Nigeria. That's what I mean. If you don't v deep sense, fall out! |

Sometimes understanding are shaped by different experiences, sometimes some have the sensitivity to understand certain things better, does not make them overall better in understanding. So, there is a place where everyone should be able to share their perspectives perhaps, it helps perhaps it doesn't. although sometimes it could be biased, but everyone at some point realizes the common truth, maybe its close to the objective reality. Perhaps, if one cannot grow or see closer to objective reality, they remain bounded in their usual reality and they keep asking questions but never answer them, since they keep repeating questions and maybe the same answers, then they sleep back and seek the best part of their boxes. Some question are not to be answered, because the individual should answer better for themselves, perhaps their truth is closer to the objective reality. Some provided their answers, and now it could be your turn. I wish for the objective reality, not for imposition of certain expectations. Therefore, your perspective is required on the table. Hmmm glad to see this topic. Who can tell me the real picture of life in the uk. My wife just got a job there an emergency technician. Annual salary is £27k. Am a website designer self employed. What are the chances we might make a better living over there in uk. and what are the chances we might not. We will be having a baby soon just to let you know. I would appreciate an experienced mind to contribute. Thanks |

I Think you are missing the point, please look again at what was written by InvertedHammer. Ego could be harmful, it makes us slip away from a line of thought and could direct us to Ego and perhaps conflicts ![]() Yes i know my dear, its seems to diminish some esteem. But priority is objective reality, and precisely the theme. InvertedHammer: / Nigeria is the worst slave camp in the world. Look around you. It is extremely difficult to free a slave who doesn't know that s/he is a slave. / HellVictorinho6: |

7arrows:Yes, and I am fully in support. Teachers deserve better life. As other countries like US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand copy that policy, you will see the value of teachers skyrocketing. Teachers will no longer be looked down upon again. And Nigerian govt plots to keep them in poverty will fail. |

Precisely, you have degenerated into insults, conflicts and from the original theme, its the typical characteristics of someone lying to themselves or perhaps tryin to satisfy their ego, but the realty is that there is no electricity, the roads are terrible, security is zero, people make statements with no empathy, it would be interesting to note how this is reflected in larger time period. It can be used as a typical case study. This is not a discussion, its your ego speaking. ![]() You should do this often. My dear, what is your perspective. HellVictorinho6: |

IMASTEX:God bless you on the above. None of these dunce will ever answer the question why people are fleeing the shithole in droves. They will go to their churches to give bogus testimonies for ordinary UK visit visa, and the ones that are refused visa will come open threads like this one on Nairaland. Why are people living Nigeria in droves?. |

SeriouslySense:Where is the insult? You are just diverting with that line. Lying to myself ![]() You don't understand.... that's why. Look....... not everyone in Nigeria lacks electricity, roads, food, water, shelter, security, etc Statements without empathy can be found all over the world.... not just Nigeria. Lastly, being a slave can be defined as a state in which a person doesn't have options as regards to what he or she can to do as a person because some other person prefers it so........ I at least never showed any sign of not having options as regards survival...... I have limits but my limits don't make me a slave....there are areas where I have no option.... such as choosing a username before I comment on Nairaland, fetching data or airtime before I download something,etc........ those things don't make me a slave... . you are not meant to define what I know or don't know to me just by saying I know or don't know. |
