I made sure the money did not come back to Nigeria because I knew it would lose value. Hence I wrote to them them I wanted it to be transferred to a foreign account (in Germany)
Disclaimer: Please don’t do this if it is not a trusted family member or friend. You will do a video interview to be sure you are not under duress or something then show your passport. I.e fintiba

It is faster to get the money out if it is send to another account within Germany. Outside Germany (Naira) takes longer.

I’d also like to say that the account I sent it to later got blocked due to large transactions. I had already gotten out all the money by then.

I hope this helps.

omosebi1:

Bro please when you withdraw the Blocked account money then, was the money deposited back in Euros or in Naira... equivalent if u funded through bank...or you are allowed to provide an alternative account number different from the one which the account was funded with?

Who told you English language test was not compulsory?

Email them for a waiver stating you're from Nigeria and had had over 12 years of education taught in English.

Personally, I will not advise you to go to Teesside. The Uni isn’t that rated plus management isn’t that great. I applied there and even paid fees but had to request for a refund.

1. Reference relating to what? I did not get any ‘academic’ reference while applying to Teesside. I only used the one from my work place.

2. There are plenty jobs available. Truth is you’d need your NI and sometimes the DBS before you get a job. This may or may not take time.

3. I went for an MBA at Ulster University. It’s okay no exam essays and test.

My advice, if you have a career you are looking into. Do a masters in that line. I have heard cases of boys that went to do an advanced computer science MSc all in the name they want to japa without having the prerequisite ; good knowledge of coding.

one major issue we have as a nation is that we don’t have career counselors, this will help a lot so we no go dey waste time doing trial and error with our life.

Morning does teesside require IELTS for admission?

Is your mother tongue English?
Nigeria only speaks English as second language.
You can ask if they would accept a waiver based on English as your second/official language, education in English or a letter from your university that English was the language of instruction.

Otherwise, you need any of the English tests

Some countries were English language is their mother tongue are England/UK, USA, parts of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and some other island countries.

If you can't differentiate between English Language as a mother tongue and English Language as an official or second language, you may actually need to submit the requested letter grin

A mother tongue/native language is the first language you learn to speak. If the first language he learnt to speak was English then English is in fact his mother tongue. There's no need for this jest.

The national language of Nigeria is English. If he was raised speaking English he therefore qualifies as a native speaker of English. He wouldn't even need a waiver. He should clarify to the university that he originates from an English speaking country, this could be coming from ignorance on the university's part.

Let's not be ignorant, Nigerians do not qualify as native speakers.

If I learn Hausa, and I'm from the South South, I do not qualify as a Hausa native speaker and I have to prove as whoever needs it wants.

Let's not speak without facts. The fact that Nigeria has a high illiterate population does not invalidate the fact that it is an ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY. I'm not talking about learning a second language or whatever language your parents speak. The first language that you learn from birth is your native language/mother tongue regardless of your ethnicity or place of origin. He's from an English speaking country (Nigeria) and if his first language is English then he is a native speaker of English.

It's funny that you'd say this but many Nigerians only know how to speak English. What would be their mother tongue according to you then?

I'm sorry but that makes absolutely no sense at all. The official language of Nigeria is English. The English we speak in Nigeria isn't Latin. What brings colour and the US into this?

You can drag from now till eternity... Nigerians are not native English speakers.
I'm reiterating it so you won't go out there and make these claims to the amusement of others.

As for your last question, if you know how to speak only English, that's your own loss of mother tongue and nativity, it doesn't and will not change the fact.

Native English language countries are not the same as English speaking countries.
In Africa, only Sierra Leone and Liberia are considered native English speakers, all other African countries speaks English as lingua franca.

You can only appeal for a waiver based on lingua franca.

If after 200 years, English is now spoken by everyone in Germany, Germany will only become an English speaking country and not a native English/mother language.

Do your own findings the basis for mother tongue and nativity of language.

You're right... Official language means lingua franca. But can Nigerians in different regions communicate if you ban English language? Yes they can using mother language, but if you ban English in native English countries, there will be no communication except for those who learned a foreign language.

That's the difference.

Nativity in language is what's left when all other learned languages are removed.

You can argue though, it just wouldn't change anything.

You may possibly not know what the meaning of "mother tongue" is and I implore you to find that out, it's a Google away. I never claimed that Nigeria was a Native English Speaking country I claimed that it was an *"ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY"*. Our laws and education system are fully based on and written in the English language so I don't get where you are getting your ideas from. A Native speaker of a language is someone who acquires that language as a first language from birth through inadvertent acquisition.

I personally am a native speaker of English because I was raised with English by my parents. For whatever reason you may be mixing up the term native language with the language of an individual's tribal origins and they are not in any way, shape or form the same thing. The school simply stated that if English is not your mother tongue you need to provide evidence of proficiency, all he needs do is state that English is in fact his mother tongue and hammer on the fact that he originates from an English speaking country and has gone through over 16 years of Education and schooling in English.

If after all this the school still refuses to let him go forward without proof of proficiency then he can go through other means but misinforming him based on what you think the meaning of "mother tongue" is will help nobody. Have a nice day.

In the end it's the University that will determine if they see him as a native English speaker so there's no point in jumping through hoops trying to make a checklist of what qualifies English as someone's mother tongue.

What you fail to realize is that English is a language of some people like any other, French, dutch etc. For you to qualify as mother tongue, you must be from an English parent. If you like learn English from Day 0, you are not English native.
