UNICEF Volunteer Job Please Share Your Experience by Ubty22(m): 2:50pm On Jan 09, 2023
Hello nairalanders so last year October I applied for volunteer job with UNICEF /NPC and after the screening we were selected for the job.
We were told that we would be given transport fare and data
The job the description was to go in the villages and register children from five years and below for free birth certificate
We started the job with much passion and enthusiasm even when the transport they promise us was no where to be found
Now my bone of contention is since last year we finish the job no payment has been made to us I wonder if it's like this every where please if you have any experience please let us know we are really feeling bad as we all spent money

If not the way these criminals have destroyed Nigeria, UNICEF should be begging Nigerians to work on these jobs. PO will right the wrongs come next month.

International organizations now freely scams Nigerians… my inlaw was also a victim. In fact risking his life in far away borno and nothing came out. It’s too bad these organizations work with our citizens to scam others citizens that need something to do.

They have played you sha..

Normally NGOs close shop around October november I think.
Any money disbursed and not used by the end of that year has to be returned. What I am saying is before they start a job they provide the money. So if by now you haven't received somebody might have cornered it.. which is also quite difficult since they audit, only way would be some of you guys where not documented.

Still I wish you well.. grin

They end up collecting the money in foreign currencies and keep all to themselves.
Pay these people the peanut you agreed on....no!
Nigerians are special breed of greedy and heartless folks.
You guys should consider going to their official Twitter handle to burst their bubble....upload pictures of you working in remote villages. Make sure you get their logo or work materials in the picture...you don't need to show your face
(Nigerians are heartless!)

They cheated you.... sadly.

Once, long ago I led a team of independent monitors and though it was an arduous task....was well paid. Even still cheated then.

Now I have seen folks in the position of drafting such budgets. They can easily put 50k per data collector per week = 200k for 4 weeks and then give them 30k after 4 weeks because they are jobless & desperate.

Most do it but I don't. I swear Karma exists. Don't cheat.

It is not like this everywhere, someone/some people along the line have misappropriated the funds meant for you guys.

You and your colleagues should threaten to take your grievances to social media, detailing the exploitation while copying UNICEF and I believe those thieving staff in NPC would feel threatened because it would grossly affect subsequent funding from UNICEF.

Dude.... first of all, UNICEF works with implementing partners, (UNICEF provides the funds & the partner organization implements the project)........ so in your case, which organization was the implementing organization?....were you directly recruited & supervised by UNICEF?

You need to clarify the above before pointing the accusing finger.... UNICEF that I know does not joke with anything cash related cos they are accountable to donors & they can be held liable ....... they would not want any dent of any sort on the reputation of the organization......

OP,

Quick Question: Did you sign a written contractual agreement before the resumption of that job?

Someone has stolen the money. Whenever I say the average Nigerian is very wicked, people always come out to attack me. But I will always insist, the reason we always vote wicked leaders that are insensitive to our cries is because people will always vote their kind into power. The kind of leaders in any country is a reflection of the people in that country.

The Nigerian mentality has not affected international organisations like Unicef. But you have to understand something, Unicef is a global organisation that operates in almost all Countries of the world. When a project is to be initiated in Nigeria for instance, you don't expect the officials from the United States or Australia to come down to Nigeria to execute and monitor the day to day process, do you?

They release the finances, resources and expertise to their officials here, who are sadly Nigerians. Whatever oversight functions they carry out from their Headquarters is through the records sent them by their Nigerian counterparts.

I don't have to explain to you what happens between the Nigerian Unicef staff and the average man whose labour is engaged as a contract staff (in this case, our unfortunate OP), do I?
