YoungCabal:You are simply a micro minded person then. I know almost nothing about game programming but i have seen prototypes built by guys here in Abu Dhabi which is amazing. No team. People are thinking outside the box daily, pushing boundaries and you are calling our ideas elephant projects. What do you want? A project you can spool up on wordpress and start making your toro-kobo google ads money? If you dont have the capacity to push, dont try to slpw another person down. You can go ahead building your fintech with its massive glut and pray for success. |

YoungCabal:Says the runt who thinks coding games require angelic dust and is unattainable in Nigeria. Just because you are a generic php ‘thing’ doesn’t mean the world must revolve around the vacuum in your head. If you cannot, dont say others can’t. |

YoungCabal:Not necessarily An average team can build a AAA game and make it foss thereby allowing anyone to contribute to the game If I were to do something like this , it'll be foolish of me to launch it as a start-up when I don't have funds, I'll launch it as a indie games dev team first or a non profit sort like Linux I would launch it as an open source project first and build a stable version first then leave it for peeps all over the world to contribute Many companies are looking for open source projects to fund but sadly there aren't enough Once I get a story teller and writer, I'll definitely build this |

LittleBigDick:Great I will check it out. Thumbs up Edit: Seen. Some of the games were built using C. As i said earlier, i know next to nothing about games. Considered using Unreal Engine 5? PUBG and a host of many games were built with Unreal. |

LittleBigDick:That is why I said you are being unrealistic in the first place, you forget we are Nigerians and we don't have much privileges like the Americans and Chinese do when it comes to building, from electricity to man power, over here, you can never get it free, people have families to feed and bills to pay, they can't waste their time building free things left and right just for fun sake. Ask yourself, why hasn't there been a Nigerian linux distro for many years now ? Not like there aren't people that can pull if off, I for one have walked that path before and use gentoo linux as my main OS till date, it's not just profitable ! How will you feel seeing people building tiny stuff and making money while you remain poor building harder stuff for people to use for free ? |

YoungCabal:You want linux to be profitable? Who is this one? The fact that all of us meet on Nairaland does not imply we all come from the same street. Yes there is poor electricity but has that ever stopped anyone from doing anything? Manpower, yes. As long as we have people like you who second-guess their abilities and continually play second fiddle, manpower would be a challenge not only in Nigeria but anywhere you go. If you cannot meet your bills, sorry. Building ‘free things’ is the best way to expand but how can you know when you want to make your own linux profitable. You have been pessimistic from the start, claiming it is not possible, yet Nigerians are getting funding almost everyday for creative ideas. Nonsense and ingredients |

| Re: Aside Fintech, What Should Nigerian Developers Build ? by truthCoder: 9:16am On Jan 12, 2023 |
LittleBigDick:I think you need more CPU than GPU for development. To build with Unreal Engine 5, you need a CPU with around 6 to 8 cores, clocked at 3ghz or better and less than 3 years old. For GPU, any GPU that can play the game you are building should suffice. You also need a lot of RAM, 16gb minimum but 32/64 ideal. Cheap fast storage too. You can read this article as it breaks it down better. https://www.cgdirector.com/unreal-engine-system-requirements |

YoungCabal:You dont own this thread. You see that your Nairaland clone that you built with bad colors, you can yank me off if i ever step my foot on it. But you see this one created by Seun, you dont own one single pixel of it and i will comment anytime and on any thread. I only dish it to people who think they have a monopoly of bluntness. You come at me, i slice you. It is how it is. |

QuoteJustOnce:LOL. Then he can kick my sorry ass out… But he would need to first sell his Nairaland clone for ten ‘taosan’ naira. |

truthCoder:First, you called me a php thing thinking I was a wordpress modder, hoping to bash me and start the usual php is dead argument but it seems you later noticed that I wasn't the average PHP guy when you saw my comment on building a linux distro and using gentoo linux as my default OS. Now, you wasted time you would have used to do something better with your life to go through my old posts to say you will never step foot on a forum I didn't even mention in this thread It only shows how frustrated you are by my refusal to engage you directly, I only interact with well minded persons, abeg shift ! |
| Re: Aside Fintech, What Should Nigerian Developers Build ? by truthCoder: 11:26am On Jan 12, 2023 |
YoungCabal:First, you are just a php thing. Nothing bad with php or your choice but thats just you. You cannot see beyond your templates and scripts. This is why you see other projects as unreachable. Secondly, i dont give a hoot if you use php or angel blood to write your codes. If you can deliver, thats all that matters. Just dont start feeling like other people cannot achieve what you have decided you cannot achieve. Third, you know almost nothing about linux. If you can open your mouth waaaa to say linux should be profitable, then you really dont get it…no matter what you claim to use. Except you are Linus Torvalds, your dick-wagging claims of using gentoo sounds so absurd and out of place that one begins to understand your inferiority complex . There are over 600 active linux distros which were built by humans…not aliens. Anyone with time and skill can fork his own Linux and start tweaking. This does not give you Voltron or SuperTed powers. You have a Nairaland clone with bad colors. Neon and black everywhere like a cheap brothel’s romp night. If i was commenting on that clone, you would have yanked me off for disagreeing with your myopic views. But here, only seun or the mods can yank me off. Now, cry me a river mister CloneLand |

truthCoder:Damn! This guy, Your cheap attention seeking and gutter attitude irritates me, you are one of the reasons why the programming section keeps losing users, all you do is go about derailing threads just to do ''notice me'' This was supposed to be a sane discussion but it's now turned to personal attacks and insults which if I would have to reply will result to unnecessary boasting and show offs, enjoy yourself uncle, deep down, you know I am way beyond what you initially rated me and PHP is just one of the languages I've used ! I'm out of here, the thread is all yours, I can't keep up with your madness, |

YoungCabal:Foss stuffs pays well You just have to do creative work and publish your works so that the world can see Everybody just want to build startups No one is building creative works anymore There are a Linux distro made by a few Africans with two nigerians involved http://linuxforniggers.us/about ( The website link seems dead) There are a lot of things that need building Build free first , money will surely come There are companies sponsoring Nigerians doing creative work eg the guy dat did mvrd lookup on GitHub

truthCoder:The kind of game you are asking him to build (Biafran war game) is not the kind he can build at his level now. A war game is like a Battle Royale game and requires 3d artists, programmers, knowledge of gaming engines, high end PC with high-end graphics cards etc. I'm not sure the op is financially buoyant enough for such project. If you know how much time he will spend creating the models alone if he decides to go solo in the game making process, you will pity him. Do you know much 3d artists sell their works or how much they will charge you to join your team of designers? What of the amount of money required to purchase the necessary hardware and the monthly cost of electricity to create the game. Game development is not easy especially when you want a high class game like a war game. |

Unbiased1:You are very right. It is expensive, not only in terms of cash but in skills, time and commitments. But no one says it should be his resources. He needs to build a prototype. A small part of the gameplay that represents the concepts and ideas. This needs to be of very high quality. He then can seek for funding to expand on this idea. He would need a business strategy to ensure that investors get returns. There are angel investors everywhere who are ready to fund viable projects. I have seen guys with just a laptop and nothing else get funding for their projects. The most painful part of all this would be the day someone launches this project with less resources than what he has and he regrets not even trying. |
